I'm at work currently drowning in COVID patients, so excuse me for being terse. Hopefully when I get a moment I can come back and flesh out the OP in time.
youtu.be...

In a nutshell, instagram has updated the Terms of Service to allow themselves unfettered access to your SMS content, your entire call log and address book, your browser history (phone and computer), they can access your camera and watch yoh/record you...

As JP says, I'll bet the Nazis would have salivated over this type of control and observation. If the Order Police had this type of Orwellian ability, who knows what would have happened.

Time to delete your IG app if you havent already. Also Facebook.

Stay safe, stay sane, keep your powder dry.

Hey everyone...I know this sounds crazy but

Gee, I wonder if these nazis are gunning to reap political-economic rewards
by embracing, and being first in line to legally spy and pry
into your anuses, a system of SociaCreditScoring?
And keep covert lists of political enemies, just like the DNC does,
you know, just in case anyone anywhere resents no longer having a vote
and starts an uprising?

I mean, I’m so lonely now because of the deadly virus lockdowns...
what should I do? You can’t expect me to not use fb just because some
nuthatch is paranoid and spouts whack conspiracy babble
about technofascism and stuff.....

I feel so ashamed now because I said something that may have
caused anyone to feel offended somehow....

Please don’t anyone report me for a well being check I promise
I am not feeling depressed in any way!
A-and please don’t cancel meeeee!

Don't you 'allow' for all of these things to happen when you download or us literally any app?

"SMS content" LOL well I doubt that majority of Instagram users can read or write. Otherwise they would chose another platform without "pictograms"

This update pushed me over the edge. I reluctantly deleted the app. I’ve missed it, but it wasn’t a necessity.

I may be wrong, but it seems that most apps are allowed access while using the app.
Not anytime, and across devices.

Glad I never got that app or Twitter and only use facebook to look at pics of grandkids - never post

Also won't use Google, especially not after they created for the Chinese (who they are in the pocket of) the 24/7 survellaince tech for all individuals in China to be carefully watched for incorrect thinking and especially incorrect speech. Incorrect according to the Chinese government.

Google Chrome, hell no.

Search on Google, only for shopping for innocous items that I can't find exactly what I want on other search engines I use first.

Google - evil

Facebook - evil

Twitter - evil

Tik Tok - evil

Instagram - evil

Use at your personal peril of having everything you write sold to everyone and given free to the government and the Chinese communist party.

Yes. and a lot of them will turn themselves on, and can change its own settings.

I don't download apps. I don't have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other social media. Just ATS and one other site.

Maybe if less peopled used them, then they would be more interested in pleasing their customers. If they don't care, then we are not really customers, we are as he says, slaves.

A lot of apps run in the background to allow for notifications.

Is there another one like Instagram?

I use Instagram because it's just pictures. It's a great way to share art and photography.

I wouldn't worry about the government so much... They've been tracking you since they issued you a social security number.

A problem is that a majority of content and friends are on these, which makes it hard to switch. Especially people who earn a living or advertise on them.

Only thing we can do is create a better app that catches on.

Yes, I am aware of that.

Which is why I turn off the option for them to do that unless I’m actively using them.

There's a benefit to being over 60 after all. Neither I nor my friends use Instagram. We don't even know what it's for! We did finally adapt to SMS though. It's great!
