Why would someone want to disrupt phone and internet to that large of an area? Perhaps switching out the right vaccine for one that might be tampered with?

Tennessee was supposed to be one of three early distribution states.

Why? Because "Information is POWER", and "Communication is Information".

The telcos have known this for a lot longer than the CT's on the Interwebz!

On CNN they just mentioned a few key things that are "KNOWN" now:

1. The RV was parked RIGHT AT that red masonry building.

2 . That red masonry building, IS an AT&T facility.

3. They did not say what KIND of facility, but by the look of it some kind of switch site (aka "CO") or data center.

Then only time will tell. We already know forsure there are different companies making different versions of the same thing. Perhaps we will see a spike in body count here once things start rolling . I hope it doesn’t happen, but it’s a possibility a reply to: ketsuko

Some businesses reporting payment services are down as well.

They have been mentioning that the witnesses to the recorded message played by the RV, that it sounded "professional" and/or "automated.

There are text-to-speech systems that the Telco's and related companies/spin-off's (Lucent, etc.) have developed over the decades that are now widely accessible on the Internet. I have used such things for literally decades to generate voice-mail greetings in various voices and such.

You can google AT&T Natural Voices and find demo sites based on the technology.

In any event, my point is that (to me) it makes it sound even more like (unfortunately) the bomber may be a current or former telecom employee, and the AT&T facility there was in-fact the target.

What think you if one relatively small bomb could take out this sort of thing at one CO in one city?

Sounds like we have an infrastructure security problem being exposed here.

For those who live around Los Angeles area, two words for you ...

One Wilsire

That is like THE "carrier hotel" for Southern California and much of the Southwestern United States.

It's all odd. I don't see Christmas morning being an off day. Also could be a probing for something bigger? Away to test the responses and such?

CO's generally aren't Data Centers, for obvious reasons.

Data Centers are rarely more than 1 story tall (even MicroSHAFT and Google, and 3 letter agencies). DC's don't have to go vertical because they perform a different function than major wire centers like CO's. DC's are processing points, CO's are aggregation points. Two completely different philosophies, both of which want to protect themselves from the other.

Which makes me wonder if this was a "damp run" for something bigger.

Or someone keen to expose the threat.

That's a different application, and one I can't really go into.

Of course we will not now why this particular perp (or perps) tried to bomb this particular facility (assuming that stays accurate). but, somereasons might be:

  • - Punish AT&T in some way for some reason.
  • - Manipulate AT&T (or other telecom's) stock price.
  • - Create chaos and confusion.

Why would you want a laser beam? What purpose would it serve? It's probably just an initial projection of material at the start of the explosion.

Yeah, that's weird. Don't have a clue what that could be about.
