From the moment he won the primary, and in the ensuing years, Trump’s opponents compared him to a pantheon of tyrants, from Nero to Mao to Adolph Hitler. Even now the fantasy persists. These comparisons were superficial at best, largely based on the churning fantasies derived from the sounds of Trump’s mouth and the drum-beat of his opponent’s propaganda, which seems to work perfectly well on people who rarely venture outside their own skulls. But during a global emergency, and presented with the perfect opportunity to seize absolute control, he never did so, leaving public health measures to the proper authorities. And now, restrained as he is (and as he has always chosen to be) by the limits of the constitution, he is criticized for not doing enough.

There is an embarrassing and dangerous irony in all of this. Vast sums of human beings throughout the world now find themselves under some version or other of state control, none of which Trump decreed. Police checkpoints, curfews, lockdowns, red zones, mask mandates, banned gatherings, the restriction of movement, censorship, free markets destroyed by state fiat—those who promised us a Trumpian fascism never once warned us that tyranny would find its prime breeding ground in the infantilizing concerns of big government statism.

Had they warned us of any of this we might have been prepared, and some even still alive. But while the world was distracted by their fantasies the walls of tyranny grew up all around us. There will be no apology, let alone any sanction against this malfeasance, but we ought to remind them of their failures so long as we are still able to do so.

Classic sociopathic behavior.

Blame everyone else for what you are actually doing.

And the sheeple believe it.

I said this in March. . .

From AOC to Biden to Bernie to Pelosi to Trump to Dirt-ass-face politician!

STOP IT!

JUST STOP IT!

We, as Americans should not have to rely on "government" to save us.

Just shut up and get out of the way.

We are not a Nanny-State. Adults should be able to take care of themselves. People should be able to take care of themselves.

We should be able to determine our own fate, our own destinies.

Go AWAY Government! Your meddling only will make things worse, enable reliance on government, and grow government.

Get away from the entitlement mindset!

Government won't save us from the Fu-Man Flu.

We can save ourselves if we can only stop for just a moment from being whiny babies and take care of ourselves.

The Biden - Harris war for control of the Presidency should be wild. Socialists versus Socialists all vying for who gets to destroy America. It will be epic and all starts in February-ish.

Like the OP stated, for 4 years, the democrats said there'd be a tyrant in office.

I never thought they meant themselves.

Really?

I bet somewhere deep in the back of your mind you always knew this is what they intended.

I still think it's all a big larp.
Two possible paths here....a Trump win, hailed as the man who saved us from the psycho, pedo, elite, nwo, or a Biden win, who wants increased taxes, more lockdowns, china, nwo stuff.
The second option would be suicide for the government.
A civil war between citizens won't happen, it would be a slaughter of the elites.
That's not a threat by me, it is more a prediction of the current situation when you take people's ability to live away.
Starving people will eat the rich.
The country as we know it will collapse and even the pigs at the trough will be out of luck.
I will bounce out of the country before it gets locked down.
Authoritarianism won't and shouldn't fly here.

My prediction stands at a Trump win, from the not so "hidden enemy" larp.

I do believe we are witnessing in real time, how the great tyrants of the past have indoctrinated the people into believing their enemies are XYZ, ultimate power must be given to the tyrant in order to stop XYZ and all the ensuing chaos, death and destruction goes down.

The vitriol people have cultivated within themselves is actually terrifying, simply seeing someone not wearing a mask leads to a tribal rage that if amplified could easily lead to mob beat downs.

2020 certainly has given the opportunity for clear vision.

Donald Trump was never a dictator. Even when he had the justification and authority to stop the riots, he instead chose to err on the side of federalism and allow the states to handle it. It was not until state and local forces were deputized by the feds that any real intervention took place by this administration, and that was limited in scope.

This notion of dictatorship seems to be not much more than projection from those engaging in real tyranny both social and political.

Lastly, but importantly, I must to compliment you on your engaging writing style. You have real talent and I hope to read more of your posts in the future.

The beauty of this is Trump could acctually become a dictator now and half wouldnt believe the media, and the other half think he was already a dictator. Really its an invitation now for Trump to do what he has been accused of.

So that weekly thread and news story saying "OMG Trump is a dictator" has in effect offered him a view of what would happen if he became a dictator. He should do it now for the lulz atleast for a few months or so to see how the media tries to report on the same thing they have claimed for the last four years.

Trump is going to show the world how to troll.

I expect him to buy several media outlets.

Every move Felon Joe makes.

Trump will be right there...

Indeed there was a up-swell of concern over Trump's possible tendencies towards authoritarian type governance.
His own mouth espoused these notions in his proclamations that he was the only one capable of saving America and that only by uniting around him and him alone could we find our way out of the morass of problems we face as a free, or rather supposedly ''free'' citizenry.

While I found these concerns valid to a degree, I think that myself and possibly others who found ourselves in opposition to this man as our leader from early on were making one very large error in judgement. We gave him all to much credit for competency. He certainly had a cadre of sycophants ready to serve his idle wishes and an abundance of willing and eager fan base believing in his proclamations. All the foundation for a solid dictatorship. Minus of course that one vital ingredient. Competency. Even that one vocal white supremacist (Spencer ? )who at one point was ecstatic at the prospect of a Trump presidency ended up turning on him because of a lack of competency.

So yes, the left was wrong about him and a good thing. Had a man of Trump's ambitious nature and leanings been truly intelligent and competent at the same time we would have been in a world of hurt.

To me, we should take Trump as a warning, A WARNING, of the potential we face in electing people to represent us who in reality merely recite any partisan values and solutions that sound so much like what we think we want to hear.

Your own post and media stories gave him or any future president a clear way to become an agent of tyrrany. By making outrageous claims stretching back even before Trump became president supporters and media have paved the way to do whatever the heck they want because now no one is gonna believe you,

for clarity read the boy who cried wolf.

Had they warned us

How is it a warning from Trumps opponents ( our soon to be repressors )
even expected? I was tipped off about these days back in the seventies.
I didn't need a warning from Trumps opponents when I already had one
from higher authority.

That's the odd thing regarding Trump. I couldn't see at all how he fit in
to what we all have been warned about. Seems like nothing more than
a spacer of some kind now. A stall of events to adjust them to the correct
time as it were appointed. Everything that happens is what has to happen.

The wickedness that was foretold about this time must come. But we
were all warned.

You believed the Russia narrative.

If you had a modicum of integrity you would have identified that HUGE error of judgment on your part.

But self awareness isn't the anti-Trump MO. Just projection.

The problem is that the press took Trump literally while the rest of us watched what he did.

But of course, now the way is paved for the next office holder to take over because he's not Trump and could never be that bad no matter what he does. He could march people off in railroad cars and disappear them into camps, and he's still not be as bad as Trump.

Trump was certainly inexperienced when it came to managing a state as it has been done until now, but that to me amounts to being competent in the typical political theater, broken promises and empty rhetoric. That sort of competency never appealed to me.

It's no wonder that white supremacists would feel disappointed in Trump's presidency, devolving into anti-Trumpism. They, like all of us, were promised a white nationalist torch-bearer and from the same people that promised us a Trumpian tyranny. I would argue they bought the same fairy tale, differing only in degree as to how such affairs would be favorable.

Trump's only explicit ambition was that he wanted to make America great again. It's a shame that certain elements did everything they could to deface this noble project, plunging the world into tyranny in order to do so. And how much bad faith! Now they want to place their own project at his feet!

Precedents over Presidents.

President's fade into, even if precedents momentarily fade they remain on the shelf waiting for their next use.
They will not only be at the ready to be used in the manner they currentl are, but will also be exploited in any possible intrusive freedom reducing way imaginable oustide of its current form.

People do understand the congress critters stay relatively the same don't they.

The American public must lie about their want for term limits, or the system is a lot more rigged than most could fathom
