MIAMI (AP) — The head of an electronic voting company being targeted by allies of President Donald Trump said baseless claims that it helped flip the 2020 election for Joe Biden threatens to undermine Americans’ faith in democracy.
Antonio Mugica, CEO of Florida-based Smartmatic, said for years he watched as democracy in his native Venezuela was destroyed by lies and conspiracy theories pushed from the highest levels of the country’s socialist government.
Now he fears many Americans are being too complacent in the face of a similar disinformation campaign.

...Last week, Smarmatic began sending letters to Fox News, Rudy Giuliani and other Trump allies threatening legal action unless they fully retract baseless claims that software developed by a U.S. affiliate it sold more than a decade ago altered the outcome of the U.S. election.
Fact-checkers at the AP and other outlets have debunked the far-fetched claims, while Trump’s own attorney general and cybersecurity officials have found no evidence of voter fraud.

...But Trump’s allies continue to press ahead. Last week, former Trump attorney Sidney Powell appeared on Fox Business’ Lou Dobbs to accuse Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s former chief of staff of being the ringleader of what she called a “Cyber Pearl Harbor” involving Smartmatic.
Smartmatic in its 20-page letter sent to Fox’s legal counsel on Friday said the “demonstrably false and defamatory” statements could’ve easily been disproven by a simple internet search.
“The damage your disinformation campaign has done, and will do, to Smartmatic’s revenue and business valuation will be measured in the hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars,” according to the letter, a copy of which was provided to the AP
.

Apparently, Smartmatic is getting serious attention from the Trump loudmouths who have, they claim slandered them and costs them in the billions and has sent legal threats to Fox and other right-wing outfits threatening a huge lawsuit if they do not retract the lies, they say are espoused by mainly Fox news.

When they are sued they will be obligated to prove their allegations in court. Fox news lately has been more vigilant asking for proof from Lou Dobbs types

And even the White House has been keeping files about other matters in lieu of lawsuits coming against them

Lou Dobbs’ Vote Fraud Lies Debunked On His Program After Legal Threat By Vote Tech Firm

The segment shot down Dobbs’ previous claims after a letter from Smartmatic demanded “full and complete retraction of all its false and defamatory statements.”

Fox Business host Lou Dobbs aired a segment on his program Friday debunking his own screeds about election fraud following a legal threat from a company he’s been baselessly attacking.

Dobbs featured a nonpartisan election expert who shot down his attacks after Fox News, which owns Fox Business, received a letter from a lawyer representing the election tech company Smartmatic.

Fox is fearing a huge lawsuit

As part of a scramble to avoid being sued by the company, the same fact-checking segment was aired on Fox News’ “Justice With Judge Jeanine” Saturday night. It is also scheduled to air on “Sunday Morning Futures,” hosted by Maria Bartiromo, on Sunday, Fox News told The Washington Post.
The letter noted both programs had spewed false, defamatory information, including in statements given on the programs by Trump personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and QAnon-supporting lawyer Sidney Powell.

LOL...Good for them! I love it that the segment is airing on Jeanine Pirro's show and on Maria Bartiromo's show too!

The package aired for the first time Friday night on Lou Dobbs' show. Fox News said the same package would air Saturday night on Jeanine Pirro's program as well as Sunday morning on Maria Bartiromo's show.

The authors have committed a major faux pas; the correct verbiage to use for this nowadays is "clap back".

Here's more

The letter noted both programs had spewed false, defamatory information, including in statements given on the programs by Trump personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and QAnon-supporting lawyer Sidney Powell.

Trump alarmed his aides Friday as he revealed at a meeting in the Oval Office that he was considering naming Powell as a special counsel to investigate his imagined election fraud.

Dominion Voting Systems, which was also baselessly attacked by Trump supporters, demanded this week that Powell retract her statements about its voting systems.

“Your reckless disinformation campaign is predicated on lies that have endangered Dominion’s business and the lives of its employees,” lawyers for the company wrote.

They just might. In America, unlike NAZI Germany, you can only get away with the BIG LIE for a time, then truth will come out and only the dense remains believing in the BIG LIE

Fox NOW IS SCRAMBLING to make amends for allowing outright falsehood in the form of baseless propaganda to smear honest people.

In the end, just as the 50 PLUS lost lawsuits by the Trump lawyers happened, one has to have PROOF of allegations, and eventually, people will sue, and then again you have to have PROOF. Not just the BIG LIE

The damage to their reputation is already done. I would proceed with the lawsuit no matter how many times they run retractions. Between actual damages and exemplary damages, this lawsuit could bankrupt Fox News. I couldn't think of a better ending to Fox than being brought to their knees due to propagating fake news.

Funny for two reasons.....

After years of denial, "cancel culture", apparently, does exist.

After years of being on the receiving end, one "side" realised that two can play that stupid game.

Carry on.

Fox is certainly liable and guilty of spreading slanderous falsehoods in the media without any control of their on-air liars for weeks. It's likely too late now to dispel the damage they have done.

And they won’t go on air and retract or apologize

No, they claim to be news. Read the letter and get some facts, please and see the outright blistering lies of Fox and the Trump group

Lawyer letter to Fox with FACTS

And even if they were just entertainment and not FAKE NEWS ( like CNN AND MSNBC) they still can get sued.

FOR ONCE WHY DONT YOU TRY TO GET SOME FACTS, TRUTH, NOT JUST PROPAGANDA AND LIES
