The move came as the latest official figures showed the R number for the UK was estimated to have risen to between 1.1 and 1.2 - which means the disease is growing again.

Huge swathes of the country - around 38 million people, 68% of the population in England - are now living under the toughest Tier 3 restrictions.

LOL currently in the US 34 out of 50 states have Rt rates at 1.0 and above, and it's been up and down this whole time regardless of restrictions or lack thereof. rates of 1.1 or 1.2 aren't great but damn it rarely goes above 1.3 no matter what is done. At some point, the vaccine ought to have an effect as well

They are orchestrating a revolution in the making so they can quash anyone who is srtong, smart and not a sheep.

The vaccine just reduces symptoms, or stops the recipient from feeling sick.

There is no guarantee it will stop the recipient from spreading the virus.

So I don't know how the vaccine is going to help that much.

Funny, I wondered if they would open shops up, promise people they could visit family, then flip their decision after everyone shopped for presents and party frocks. Oh well, welcome to the new normal.

No worries. They will surely relax measures in January to let everyone spend in the January sales.

Rest of us can only have Christmas Day to mix with one other family group...the other 4 days are cancelled.

Thank Christ, Boris has finally seen sense on this matter. I was faced with the prospect of having to spend Christmas with my idiot son and his insane reiki mad girlfriend. Not anymore! Hopefully Only Fools And Horses will be on the box so that I can enjoy it in peace with a turkey for one!

I was also very excited to see an extra tier added! No doubt for special cases. I don’t know anyone who would argue against the success of the previous three tiers, so why not add an extra one? I suggest that next year we move to a six tier system for extra extra special cases, for instance, people from Derbyshire.

Im sure your son and his girlfriend are far more relieved than you.

Unlike our American friends who still live in some kind of archaic western movie, we have strong leadership here and believe in our government 100% thank you very much.

About the same as the Michigan governor did. We are heading home to a family pole barn that worked so well for Thanksgiving. Several of us will have motorhomes or campers of some sort and life will be happy and good.

I have family in Kent and London.

We are not laughing. The new variant is 70% more transmissible. New data fresh out. Infection is skyrocketing. In London and SE England.

I hope you folk wake up and take this seriously.

For all his faults, and he has many, this is the last thing Boris wanted to have to do.

Please stop with the denial and the sneering.

Viruses mutate. The more it spreads the more chance of it mutating. God forbid it should happen to the US. Please take this seriously.
