Interesting article from Scientific American.

Strange radio transmissions appear to be coming from our nearest star system; now scientists are trying to work out what is sending them

It’s never aliens, until it is. Today, news leaked in the British newspaper The Guardian of a mysterious signal coming from the closest star to our own, Proxima Centauri, a star too dim to see from Earth with the naked eye that is nevertheless a cosmic stone’s throw away at just 4.2 light-years. Found this autumn in archival data gathered last year, the signal appears to emanate from the direction of our neighboring star and cannot yet be dismissed as Earth-based interference, raising the very faint prospect that it is a transmission from some form of advanced extraterrestrial intelligence (ETI)—a so-called “technosignature.” Now, speaking to Scientific American, the scientists behind the discovery caution there is still much work to be done, but admit the interest is justified. “It has some particular properties that caused it to pass many of our checks, and we cannot yet explain it,” says Andrew Siemion from the University of California, Berkeley.

Most curiously, it occupies a very narrow band of the radio spectrum: 982 megahertz, specifically, which is a region typically bereft of transmissions from human-made satellites and spacecraft. “We don’t know of any natural way to compress electromagnetic energy into a single bin in frequency” such as this one, Siemion says. Perhaps, he says, some as-yet-unknown exotic quirk of plasma physics could be a natural explanation for the tantalizingly concentrated radio waves. But “for the moment, the only source that we know of is technological.”

I think the area of technosignatures is very promising. We're finding more of them and they're very intriguing.

The bad thing is, you can always find a skeptic that says there's a "natural" explanation and no matter how crazy it sounds it will be enough for some to say that's a good enough explanation. This because if you start out with the belief extraterrestrials don't exist then you will accept any convoluted explanation as better than an extraterrestrial explanation.

A person can say,"Maybe 2 neutron stars collided at a 30 degree angle and the blast ripple through space and 10 million light years away this ripple excited the quantum field and that could have created the signature that was detected."

I'm being facetious but it's close to the truth.

There is a natural explanation probably, maybe a couple of neutron stars collided at 30 odd degrees, a pulsar, black hole.
Always get these crazy alien extra terrestrial believers saying any noise is proof of aliens, confirmation bias rot

Well you know the kind

Nice find. I hope that TPTB are not about to use a Blue Beam type of thing to push the NWOs deal on us. This does seem to be opening the door for that type of thing.

There's only a few weeks left in 2020 for the NWO to announce they detected an alien invasion force and we need to lockdown longer for ............... reasons.

Nice find

Four light years away and our closest star and we cannot see it. That baffles my mind in itself!

The signal does look promising. It looks to me like we are now living through disclosure. Its only a short matter of time now before life in space is verified.

I thought there is one already, the same team is likening the radio waves, to pulses caused by planets' magnetic fields...as they found in Jupiter.

There are also signals coming from Tau Bootis.

A team of Cornell researchers detected radio bursts emanating from the sole exoplanet orbiting the Tau Boötes binary star system – making this the first radio emission received from a planet outside of our solar system.

What one would always hope for is to find that we are not alone. However, you do have to eliminate ideas that could support the phenomenon that don’t coincide with it signifying alien life.

Yes,
That's the one I was referring to, and is a different team. It does seem to be about the same idea though.

Thank-you. Far more exciting than radiation-resistant lizards on Venus.

Any ET civilizations that can use the electromagnetic spectrum to communicate, knows that it is only useful in close proximity, certainly the planet and also to near objects in their respective solar systems.

Assuming that they are much more advanced than us, they probably use instantaneous methods that we would call quantum or communications media based on thought.

We (and they) cannot handle the information rate at the speed of light even, and it has to be buffered and re-transmitted like we do in our own technology.

Perhaps they can do the same with entangled communications, in that they can send it instantaneously, but cause it to buffer in solid objects (like a planet), and then re-transmit at light speed so our receivers can de-modulate them.

If this is true, then detecting frequencies from light years away could actually be real time communications and does not mean it took those light years to get here. Obviously, to answer back, we need to develop that capability as well.

As charlyv said, any civilization that can communicate in the radio spectrum will go spread spectrum digital and not stay in the radio frequency range for any length of time for us to notice (we did the same. About to go terahertz, digital spread spectrum, so why would aliens stay at one level of technology?)

Besides, I thought we already went there and only found primordial goo.

Cool thoughts though!!

Because They are out there! And already here...

Really?

Maybe

Interesting.
Reminds me of the movie Contact. They got a signal and deciphered it, and it was a Hitler speech!

Spread spectrum, Terahertz.... still talking modulation based on light speed.
Way too slow for communications across the universe.

Open a subspace channel then.

Fire up the ansible.

Then all the Alien hackers will have access to everything.
Hey, they probably do already.....

We just had a nasty lesson in tools that run other low level tools...... Trouble is that if compromised, they can give you access that you probably could not have gotten any other way...... progress.
