Fair play to the government for standing their (our) ground as the EU maintain their demand for access to our fisheries and subservience to their rules post Brexit.

Lord Frost and Mr Barnier blamed the break-down in the talks on "significant divergences on level playing field, governance, and fisheries".
The level playing field refers to state subsidies and standards: the EU fears that Britain could become a low-regulation economic rival, cutting standards and heavily subsidising its industries.

Britain, meanwhile, wants to "take back control" from Brussels and set its own economic policies.

The EU want us as their Vassal state and don't seem to understand that we want freedom from their Superstate and control over our future , Emmanuel Macron has threatened to Veto any deal that doesn't meet with his (and his fishermen's) approval so the chances of a deal succeeding even if it is reached seem slim , the EU seem set to cut off their nose to spite their face.

This is Britain , we will prevail.

Even the WTO says leaving on WTO terms is a bad idea.

We will trade the EU for the WTO and the other transnational regulatory agencies. Same gun, different finger on the trigger.

Fishing rights is a red herring (pun intended). The whole sector is worth less than Edinburgh University and exports most of its product.

The integrity of the Single Market is worth more to the EU than their exports to us. We're on the outside looking in.

And Boris is in charge.

I'm old enough to remember when we were "The Sick Man of Europe". Looks like we're heading that way again.

Sometimes when I read about the lag in Brexit, it reminds me of negotiating with your spouse after you have filed for divorce.

Last time you said that Britain shrunk from where the sun always shines to one small island.
Are you sure Britain will prevail?

Let’s see what happens from here on in. There is talk that if a deal is agreed, France could veto and potentially 4 other states are willing to do the same.

It’s exactly like that.

No deal, no alimony for Europe.

We will prevail, but would the E.U prevail without a deal? The onus will be on Germany to fund the black hole, as they are the only member of the E.U state that could contribute.

WTO says leaving on WTO terms is a bad idea.

If it's what we have to do to earn our freedom then so be it , the only way we'll know is when we do it.

Fishing rights is a red herring (pun intended). The whole sector is worth less than Edinburgh University and exports most of its product.

I disagree , it's about having control of our waters and the gap left by EU boats will be filled by our boats.

The integrity of the Single Market is worth more to the EU than their exports to us. We're on the outside looking in.

This is about more than the single market to the EU , it's about the integrity of the EU state and trying to avert its impending collapse.

I'm old enough to remember when we were "The Sick Man of Europe". Looks like we're heading that way again.

I old enough to remember the Butter and Beef mountains , just one of the EU costly and failed policies , they eventually dumped the surplus on poor countries which put local farmers out of business.

Not a UK resident but...

How long has this gone on? When was the initial vote?

It sounds like the EU is all about democracy and the people until it comes to...democracy and the people. Then it's about them.

I wish Britain well.

Too long and 2016 , we leave at the end of this year deal or no deal.

We have left already, we are currently going through the negotiations of a trade deal. We are in the transition stage.

No trade deal, then we will withdraw from the withdrawal agreement, including the £Billions that we have agreed to pay.

Time for the big guns to come out.

Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen will seek to break the stalemate over a post-Brexit trade deal on Saturday.

I actually agree with you that Britain should just leave with no deal and get it over with. She has friends and she will find her feet. With that said, Breixteers need to understand Britain's new place in the world post break-up. She'll be a small fish among preditors. The fact of the matter is, the EU is far less dependent on a deal than the UK is. We're talking about 18% of EU total trade with the UK vs 40% for Britain. We're also talking about the fact that the EU will come out of this with their original free trade deals intact and fully functioning. Britain will still be at the starting block with only Japan as a sign off so far. And then we have this:

Biden Says Irish Border Must Remain Open as Brexit Talks Continue

You leave the EU without a deal that means a hard border on Ireland, and that means a break against the Good Friday agreement. That also means a free trade agreement with the US in peril given the above.

There's also the fact that the EU would have far less negotiating power with the big trading blocks post Brexit. The EU, China, the US, ASEAN, all mammoths compared to the British economy. You want to talk about fear of being a vasal? She is a small fry in the global ocean so she'll feel that way regardless without a deal.

It's a bit of a pickle that brexiteers find themselves in, but aye all good things with time I suppose. Reality is scary though.

There's no plan for a hard border on Ireland , the EU deal would mean Northern Ireland remains as part of the EU until they say otherwise ... unacceptable.
