Brazil bank heist - Armed gang mount fierce assault on city of Criciúma

Military police reported that a fire had been set in a tunnel on the main road leading to the city, presumably to prevent the security forces from sending reinforcements to the town. The police headquarters also came under attack.

In other parts of the city, at least six people were used as "human shields" by the armed men, who forced them to sit on a pedestrian crossing to block the road.

Residents posted images on social media of what they described as snipers on rooftops.

This sounds like something right out of a movie.

Money was scattered all over the street as bystanders rushed to pick it up.

A human barricade was set across at least one street.

Vehicles were set on fire in the middle of streets as road blocks, even in front of a police station.

It started about midnight in the city of around 200,000 people.

The shoot out lasted about a half hour and the the bandits made off with the cash in a convoy of vehicles.

It was a very organized and professional bank robbery with many people involved.

I hope they took the money to buy bling, houses, cars, hookers and drugs.

And not to finance something more sinister.

The amazing thing is only two people were hurt and no one was killed.

I guess they did not run into much resistance.

They probably want to stick to the last 2 if they want to stay off the radar

So the Bank hasn't yet said how much was taken..
Maybe they took something other than just cash?

Im just thinking if they took so much time to plan and prepare all the diversions,including throwing at least some stolen money away-they may have had another target from a safety deposit box or something?

Completely. I lived in studio city real close to where the north hollywood bank robbery took place. That went south real quick.

They threw some away and left bags behind.

They did go after some type of safety deposit boxes it looks like.

So, where are the cries of "defund the police", now ?

I am sure the bank robbers are merely "troubled youth" and instead of police, the Brazilian government should have sent in social workers and activists (with paper, signs and crayons), right ?
