Jim Rickards once speculated they would confiscate gold, but not...

...for the reasons commonly cited. He said "TPTB" would confiscate gold in order to bury it forever (in his hypothetical scenario, below a mountain in Switzerland).

This would be, he believed, the only way to stop gold from retuning to its historical status as the ultimate store of value.

Force-irradiating it so that as a radioactive metal it would be physically impossible to hold without personal danger is another possibility.

Since gold's strength is its physicality, only physical elimination through such a method would allow a global system of pure credit creation.

It was the opening scenario in one of his books. Maybe "The End of Money" (???)

He is a great writer and his vision was intriguing.

If they confiscate 100% of it then it can theoretically cease to have value, in the sense that you can't play poker without a deck of cards.

And how do you think they will confiscate 100% of all gold, what, take all smart phones, all computers, all tech, pull out teeth, steal jewellery off everyone, do you suppose people won’t hide, store use it as black market currency
Do you believe that “they” will get all the gold worldwide, really

Yeaaah, I'm going to have to agree with you it's kind of an unrealistic scenario.

Nobody sane wants to bury stuff like this, either:

As a thought experiment I still think it's cool, though.

I have no doubt in my mind “they” have a plan for gold, what it is, its worth speculating on for sure.

I don't see this being possible as I can go only a few miles from my home and dig up small amounts of gold. If they make it scarce, the desire for it will go up and that will make the price go up. Everyone and there brother will invest in shovels and other small scale mining equipment.

Also as mentioned, there are way too many uses in electronics to attempt to confiscate it all.

Gold is way too common a mineral to stop people from dinging up their neighborhood if the price goes up high enough.

Just checked and gold is about $60.66 a gram. I need to check the price of a good shovel.

Gold isn't just used for jewelry or financial means, gold is used in the industry a lot. Electronics for example, almost every thing that is digital, has gold in it. From all the minerals on earth, gold is the most useful of it all.

You're forgetting used for space travel as it blocks outside radiation (bad stuff) and keeps heat and such in.

Confiscate the gold, no more space research, space travel ect.
