Hey Guys and Girls,

Long time since I've been on here but used to trawl through since 2006ish.

With a lot of, shall we say, weird and crazy things happening in the world at the minute I thought I'd come back on to get more eyes and words on all the goings on.

The first thing I have noticed, more so IRL (the kicker to logging back on), is that the way in which the populace sees conspiracy theoristshas changed, or critical thinkers as I'm not a fan of the first term.

When I first found the community at large, it was very left wing in its essence. Not in totality as at heart most critical thinkers see through the politics of life, but just in the sense that if you were to put it on the political spectrum with the core beliefs from the masses, we sat very left. Things like free data sharing, free information sharing, sharing information, evidence, thoughts and theories for the greater good, the white/grey hats if you will.
At that point, and all the way since the 50s/60s where the Conspiracy Theorists term started, the world saw that kind of community as the weird stoner friend in the tie dye shirt wanting to stop the war etc etc. A very left wing ideology.
It was where I was introduced to Anonymous, Wikileaks, saw genuine evidence that went against official stories, discussed and saw the start of the true Occupy movements.

For the last couple of years IRL I've noticed a lot of MSM start to tag the Conspiracy Theorist vibe to alot of right wing spin and IMO obviously stupid theories, that aren't even a conspiracy, but is dubbed that way. Usually semi political.

My Critical brain say that it's a further bastardisation of the Critial Thinker / Conspiracy Theorist tag in order to further discredit the good work that goes on, and makes the whole field seem wilder by including the ridiculous right semi political cannon fodder.

This is not a Left Vs Right argument starter. I dont care for that on here and am genuinly horrified by the amount of BS Politics threads on here when I logged back in.

I'd quite like a bit of chit chat with some other Legends and Elders that have been here for decades

Some people believe that disagreeing with mainstream ideas makes them ‘critical thinkers’. They fail to see that mainstream ideas must run the gauntlet of innumerable critical minds before they are accepted and became mainstream.

Conspiracy theorists are uncritical thinkers. Instead of verifying and then weighing evidence carefully, they decide that a story ‘feels’ right and adopt it. Then they do their ‘research’ which consists of finding anything written that supports their point of view and embracing it, while suppressing or rejecting anything that refutes it.

You are correct!
Recently watched the Joe Rogan interview with Alex Jones

Extremely thought provoking for us 'conspiracy theorists' since Joe has a good way of calming Alex down and getting him to talk like a normal person.

At one point Joe mentions that when he first met Alex Jones he was very outspoken re. George Bush where as most people today perceive Alex Jones to be a right-wing nut job. Free thinkers who are critical of government shouldn't be categorized as 'right' or 'left', problem is when one of their theories links to a party they get labeled...

But watch the interview, they touch on some very interesting stuff like Bohemian Grove, secret societies and 'ol Jeff Epstein etc.

The "elites" in fact take books like 1984 and Brave New World and use them as blueprints. Listen to what Huxley said in 1958 and look what´s happening right now:

Explains a lot if not everything!

"conspiracy theory" has been utilized as a weapon against us, it's the new propaganda, and most people are incapable of seeing through it. That's why we have a polarization of "left" and "right".

We are all sheep, TPTB have won.

It is the conspiracy deniers that use the term conspiracy theory in a derogatory and dismissive way. They don't want people looking at organized crimes, especially in politics. It is psychological tool that is used to direct how people think with peer pressure. When you stop caring what other people think it has no effect and lets you know who is still brainwashed.

I can understand how some people do not want to get into conspiracy topics, they can be deep, messy and ugly. To pretend they do not exist is ignorant.

I think this is the price we pay for the world-wide digital information and communication age.
Conspiracy thinking before the internet was fringe, now it has gone mainstream.
The rest is same old political bs games being played.

There is more than one kind of conspiracy theorist.

Some people are just crazy or try to escape from reality.

Some people are open minded and seekers of alternative explanations.

The real long term battle isn't left vs right but how left and right are defined.

I dont agree but you may have proved my point a little bit.

We were Critical Thinker before the term Conspiracy Theorist was coined. It was thought up as a trope to make us sound crazy etc etc. What we have NOW are people who are dumb enough to just follow what they are told until it becomes an undeniable fallacy or farce, then the Conspiracy label comes out.

Back in the day, it's what THIS website did.

I remember seeing the ORIGINAL Wikileaks cable reports coming through and we fished through before we sent that information out to other platforms.

You seem to have fallen for the modern trope unfortunatly.

I get your point it I cant stand either of these people. I remember before Jones went 'crazy' or whatever, before the change, I didnt like him either. He made some good points but it was like watching a bull in a China shop trying to teach the owner higher math. Where he should have been a surgeon implanting information to the masses.

I saw him at a March once where a member of the public simply questioned what was going on, a genuine "ooo what's going on here" kinda vibe, he then proceeded to shout in this man's face (with a mega phone) about loads of randoms things that kinds linked into why they were there.

I may have too look back into these two though, I understand how peoples perceptions can be switched, and i have spent a few years out of th inner loop.

100%. And that's why I kinda bring the left/right paradigm into it as I have a similar thing where the right are the only ones who use the term socialist as an insult but most of them barely know what it means.

Yeah, understand some wont go into them either, bit of cognitive dissonance for the masses.

The term has been in use since the 1870s and was pejorativefromthe beginning. Were you a critical thinker long before 1870?

You seem to have fallen for the modern trope unfortunatly.

Maybe if I was as old as you....

Or, perhaps, less of a critical thinker.

Conspiracy theorism was doomed to fail as soon as it went public and mainstream on the interwebz.

But that is one of the reasons it was given this open platform if you ask me. You can basically kill all serious and well educated streams by giving the sheep access to it and allow them to make a few bucks by showing some YouTube videos.
