Personal Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Protection Unclassified DHS report FOR ALL NATIONS

Well one would think that since the USA Department of Homeland Security had unclassified a report on the subject matter that the USA MSM would push it so as to protect the homeland. Nah. So please read on because this is military grade EMP protection that anyone in the USA can buy.

I wrote this thread because we all have heard about Faraday Cage, Tin Foil Hats and other junk that does work but now several companies now sell their military spec grade items to you and I to protect your home, vehicle, RV and other items from an EMP, lightning and other electrical anomalies. Recall of the EMP that hit the earth in the 1800's

The Carrington Event[1] was a powerful geomagnetic storm on September 1–2, 1859, during solar cycle 10 (1855–1867). A solar coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth's magnetosphere and induced the largest geomagnetic storm on record. The associated "white light flare" in the solar photosphere was observed and recorded by British astronomers Richard Carrington and Richard Hodgson. The storm caused strong auroral displays and wrought havoc with telegraph systems. The now-standard unique IAU identifier for this flare is SOL1859-09-01. A solar storm of this magnitude occurring today would cause widespread electrical disruptions, blackouts and damage due to extended outages of the electrical grid.[2][3] The solar storm of 2012 was of similar magnitude, but it passed Earth's orbit without striking the planet, missing by nine days.[4]

Further other than a vehicle what will it matter for your home if the power is completely out and you do not have an alternate source?

For people who live in urban areas this is more or less useless as the mains power will be out anyway, and for everybody in a rural area it will also be pretty much useless as you won't be in an area targeted by an EMP.

You'd be better of simply having an EMP proof storage box with a few bug-out essentials in it like a phone and a laptop. Then use really basic gas powered generator that will be immune to an EMP.

An old broken microwave oven is a good small EMP proof safe for keeping phones/tablets/laptops.
Cheapo alternative

Appreciate the info but that stuff is spendy. An aluminum garbage can for $35.00 works for a lot of things. Aluminum foil wrapped around chicken wire structure for an even larger area is pretty cheap too.

When my wife retired from the health department four years ago, they were getting prepared for a possible EMP event. They were telling all people working there to stock at least two weeks worth of food in case there was a blackout, preferrably a months worth or more. I suppose it is time again. My big question is why the health department did not advise the whole area to get prepared and stay prepared, people wouldn't have panic bought all of the toilet paper and all the freezers in four counties if a lot of people already were stocked up. That reminds me, we still need to get some more powdered milk in stock, we only have enough to make maybe three gallons of milk, that is not enough for the cats let alone us having any.

What good would a phone/laptop be in an area where an EMP had been triggered?

A few 2-way transceivers and an AM/FM radio would be what I'd put in it

I'd love to have an EMP gun that would let me silence the bass boomers that go by here 3-4 times a day. Local kids, very annoying.

Just keep spare parts for the fridge/freezer as well as spare starters/distributor in an EMP protected storage compartment, buried in the ground preferably. Go solar and keep those vulnerable parts also in spare and your good to go.

Good preperations entail having slare parts and other suppmies buried all over the place. I have silver, ammo and weapons buried in three different states along isolated interstate roads.
Nothing too major, about fifteen ounces and just 200 rounds for the arm that goes with them. The last time i checked on my I10 stash was a year ago. Undisturbed and still sealed. Illl check on my rocky mountain one next time I'm back out there.

Its less than $500 retail value a piece so its not like im breaking bank.

One could say I just exposed my I-10 stash, but me thinks an 1800 mile stretch across the nation does not exactly narrow it down much.

I got the idea from a trucker. I have not traveled much in thebladt few years so verifying them has not been on my prioirty list. But i will always know 'm half a day drive or less from some kind of stash as long as I'm no further north than a given latitude. Not a big fan of northern clmate.

Correct but it has to be plugged in so the EMP goes into the earth via the ground plug.

Because of the nature of a real EMP burst it will not be the family or neighborhood levels what will suffer quickly. It will be business, commerce and government that will be most directly affected and by proxy then the rest of us.
Having protection at the individual level would only be worthwhile if everyone had cheap and inexpensive ways to protect against an EMP and again you are then left to the fate of your State or Countries preparedness or lack of.
