You gave us 6 videos of Prof Simon to watch. Good heavens it nearly killed me listening to the one he waffled about Rendlesham quite some time ago.

So what...everything is "correct"- aside from your allusions to Machrihanish hosting deeply classified aircraft?
Interesting to note none of the usual SAP/Black projects enthusiasts have picked up on these stories....only the broadly clueless fake Prof.

Probably not wise to broadcast you've worked at such places (regardless of whether its the truth or not).

Back on topic.....The Air Secretariat seemed to be the first port of call for reporting sightings.
I'm waiting for that DI55 guy to start doing interviews/media tours as they seemed to actually know "stuff".

I live a few miles from fylingdales, I've heard a lot about the place, once had a colleague with history there too.
I'd been told a story of an event similar to the Nimitz "tic tac" saga, objects dropping from space at massive speeds then stopping dead just a couple of hundred feet up, things like that.

Feel free to share more, if you can.

Furthermore, Pope's claim that he was nick-named "Spooky" whilst at the 'UFO Desk' does not allow much of a window of opportunity since 'The X-Files' first aired in the UK during September 1994 - the same year Pope left the desk. Do we know his exact date of departure?

Yes he left in July of 1994 as per the MoD DEFE 24-2000 file.

However The X-Files was being aired on Sky One [satellite TV] from January of 1994. So I suppose that makes it possible someone called him 'Spooky' [like Fox Mulder]. But there again he may have just misheard them?

No one has ever confirmed this 'Spooky' story but Nick. Just like the one about the picture in this thread.

I linked to a copy of that interview in the original post.

Ah, OK. Both of your links had the same text so I only opened one of them, which led me to the Oct 9 article instead of the Oct 10 article.

The story-line I get from fragments of both articles:

The file is said to contain astonishing colour photographs of a 100ft craft hovering over the village of Calvine in the Scottish Highlands in 1990.

A 30-year rule meant it was due to be declassified on January 1 — but the Ministry of Defence has now blocked release until 2072 without explanation.

A complaint lodged under the Freedom of Information Act about the National Archives withholding the documents is now under investigation by the UK information watchdog, the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Nick Pope: "I’ll be delighted if the Calvine photos are released in the New Year, but I’m not getting my hopes up. I’ll believe it when I see it."

The National Archives refused to comment further. The MOD refused to comment at all.

Not much to go on in terms of sources, but it seems that a complaint is still under investigation which may lead to the release of the photos after all, but Nick is not getting his hopes up. I don't know whether these complaints/investigations are public?

Not releasing these photos seems highly suspect. It seems to me that anything developed 30 years ago is outdated or at least common knowledge by now given the pace at which technology has developed in the last three decades.

Yep that's the story according to the Sun. But it doesn't even reference who has lodged the complaint nor is there any reference or comments from MoD officials about locking the files until the 2070s. Or even proof of this.

You can search UK FOIA requests at this website : www.whatdotheyknow.com

I haven't found anything as yet. Nor could I find an independent source that doesn't reference the original story in the Sun. Not the most reliable of sources.

● A blow up of this photo was displayed on an MoD office wall in Whitehall between 1990 and 1994.

At around the same time, a bunch of us in another Whitehall department had a noticeboard with flyers and adverts for bands we wanted to see, including Napalm Death. Which I saw again last year and were better than ever.

But anyway, display on a govt department wall doesn't mean zilch.

Oh, and weeding. Every now and again we'd go through not quite active (but not necessarily dormant) files and decide what to send to archive and what to send to shredding. Press enquiries went to archive. Normally. Sometimes "we" was an unsupervised executive officer (the lowest managerial grade) and if anything important went in the confidential waste sack, well, who'd ever know. No conspiracy, just complacency.

That is basically my point.

If this was important and part of any serious 'investigation' and sensitive [ie suspected top secret aircraft or even something from outer space], then Pope's predecessor wouldn't have been allowed to blow up a photo of it. Then put it up on a wall on display to all and sundry. Certainly not for four years. So was it really removed? Or was not really that impressive in the first place?

So maybe the Daily Record treated it as a hoax and so did the MoD. After the initial excitement it was decided that the photo on the wall was a fake and the cool kids played a practical joke on the new rooky. 'Spooky Nick'.

All that now remains is a yarn. One that no one else appears to have verified.

Maybe that picture is buried somewhere like Bob Lazar's secret stash of non-existent element 115.

Not to go to far off topic... indulge me for a quick moment. Has there ever been mentioned by Bob and those he knew on a personal basis, what the color of stable E115 is? If not by Bob and close friends.... then the general going guess for what color it would be. Thx

Would you believe that Jeremy Corbell has claimed it has always matched the same hue as his fantastic Norse beard?

Prof simon video on RAF mcrinhanish is good, his father was a top civil servant ( spook) for that area at the time, also the vid on the Chinook crash there that was filled with army security agents from northern Ireland.
It is believed that an aircraft the yanks were playing with had something to do with the Chinook crash.
Regarding the photo that his holiness the pope had on the wall, I believe it showed one of the top secret aircraft the yanks were playing with at the time and the harrier escort was also American and flown from mcrinhanish, there was lots of clandestine operations going on from that base in the 80s.

Not hard to believe, his mannerisms are odd/spooky. Reminds me of LMH.

Thank you for your thoughts re Prof Simon. I had seen enough when his Rendlesham take came up.

Re Nick Pope. No comment other than he is the face many follow with love and devotion. I guess in some ways much like LMH.

Have you ever actually looked at Machrihanish on Google maps?
There are houses within sight of the runway.
Did the Farmer (whose house sits at the end of the runway) not notice anything?- or was he just entrusted to look the other way?

The whole point of secret airstrips is they are located in places you cant get close enough for a look without being detected....Machrihanish would be almost impossible to secure as it doesn't occupy a big enough physical footprint.

Add in the fact it is Northern Scotland with only limited hours of darkness for significant chunks of the year- and it's a terrible choice.

The rumors maybe come from the real SEAL deployment and their interesting "charge"- but anyone with a brain can go on google maps to see it is not a good option for landing classified craft.

the same can be said about RAF boscombe down but it didn't stop the testing of secret aircraft in the 80s, machrihanish is far more remote than boscombe being on the southern most tip of the mull of kintyre.😄
The base was not only secret for exotic aircraft but other operations as well involving special forces, I have also heard about SBS being at boscombe and would make sense as they are based not far away at Poole in dorset.
Funny enough, all of the flight testing was done not in daylight hours and I have looked at many photo's of the base. reply to: Jukiodone

He's a flim flam artist who plays on the fanboi tendencies of certain segments of the internet who yearn for black project gossip - regardless of evidence.

The MO of (plain ole) Simon's anonymous information provider will also seem strangely familiar if you follow these things.

You (or GrumpyPants) haven't responded to any of the verifiable counter arguments provided - so I guess we are done here.

There are no "quick" looks re the Rendlesham case. I would view that kind of research as sloppy.

It's interesting what you find hidden in the very files one Mr. Pope dealt with during his short tenure....

Apparently anyone who submits photos to the MoD retains the copyright and the thirty year rule does not apply to photographs and videos.

Note the above letter, which we can assume was signed by Nick Pope just before left for a new position in Aug 1994, was not concerning the Calvine photo. But the same rules would apply. It seems to me that the story about the MoD withholding a dossier regarding this case is weak and probably a creation.

There's also some really interesting stuff about Nick Pope in those files too. But that will have to wait.
