"Bbboo!" I'm back. It's been a month. Anyone missed my presence? 🙂 Sure you did. Shhh! It's gonna be alright.
What's wrong with the dollar?
These are cool tho. I want some and then some in tactical red color and one with a dimmer would be nice too. I'd give you two tokes of Cannabis for one but we are too far from each other.
But alas, indeed USB ports are failing on me everywhere. I've just invested 3 bucks into magnetic charging cable to avoid thhe silly micro USB on the phone.

No. My total investment is 50 pieces or $35.45. I just thought they kind of have the characteristics of a kind of barter dollar.

Gotcha. I like your idea of 'thinking outside the box' WRT a new system for storing intrinsic value a.k.a. currency, but as others point out, the value of this is directly coupled to availability of electrical power, and while you might indeed be capable of existing off the grid, those you intend to barter with may not be, and if/when tSHTF, capacity to manufacture more USB lamp chatckies will likely be over with.

When/if the day comes where bartering overtakes our monetary systems, commodities will be king, i.e. food, fuel, labor.

I live in a legal cannabis state so it has a lot less value to me. I do not like micro usb one bit. I paid about $12 for a rechargable bluetooth head set. The charge port broke after about 10 charges. I broke them down for project parts so not a complete waste I guess.

I have about a dozen of these types of devices in differing forms, some have a protective clear plastic cover kind of like a USB stick, others are exposed like the ones you pictured but larger. They definitely are useful, and certainly could make a decent barter item I guess. For the price, it is definitely worth picking a few up just to have on hand for a prepping item for power outages and such.

The ones with the clear plastic cover are really nice, mine are smaller than this and were under a $1 each when I bought them.

I have been binge buying prep stuff I guess. I have also been salvaging Lipo batteries and building power packs and solar charging systems. Just for myself, my family, and friends not to make money off of just to get items as the best price I can. Being semi-retired meaning getting older but can't afford to retire I keep building energy systems and farming, canning, drying, and vacuum bagging. I also like to make mead, wine, beer, and distilled liquor. In a grid down situation, I am just going to expand my systems. Like others have mentioned you won't be able to get these little LEDs when their are no more boats from China arriving.

I will likely use some as lights for an Arduino robot. They are so lightweight they would work as a light for a drone as well. USB modules are so cheap nowadays and light in weight, I can add these as lights to just about anything.

I used a tiny piece of Kapton tape and it changed the output color to Amber it's easier on the eyes and better on your night vision so I think I'll use this in hallways and bathrooms for Night Lights.

Solar is always available unless the S really hits the fan, then nothing matters.

Just for transparency.... you don't happen to have any vested interest, I.P., stock investment etc in the company or companies that make these gadgets...do you?
