So last night I was outside, I guess around 10:30 eastern and I heard a plane passing over the house. I looked up because it seemed low like taxing for a landing at our local Airport. But as it passed over, I noticed the white lights on the wings were really far back, on the belly was one red light and there were odd long white lights running left to right underneath were the nose would be. I could not make out the shape of the plane just the lights, it was really dark outside. I guess if I was to draw a line from the “nose” lights to the “wing” lights it would be more like a letter A.

So ATSers what did I see? It was moving really slow like a plane on a landing approach and did should like a jet, but the lights were in an odd formation from the usual passenger jets I have seen at night.

Also, I knew my phone would not take a video because it sucks in low light.

Depiction (my handy work)

Did it black out the stars completely?

you know I really did not notice, The thing sounded like a plane but the wing lights were just so far back. I am wondering if its a plane we don't know about yet.

Knoxville, TN. We do have McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base but I would not think they would keep anything real interesting.

I can't identify it.

Perhaps it's a new drone config?

If it was making jet like sounds Im gonna say it's terrestrial and human.

I'm seeing a Navy P-8 (Boeing 737) doing circles over Knoxville right now, it could have been a P-8 or a KC-135. There were several C-17's in the area flying last night also, but I didn't pay attention to where they were flying.

Hope that helps. I'm thinking its a military plane due to the lighting configuration and the red light only lit. Most commercial craft will have red and green lit as well as flashing anti-collision lights plus landing lights when on approach.
