NBC, in a masterful effort to justify both the public hysteria over COVID and hysteria over those damn confederates, has presented an article about how COVID has killed more people than the rebels did in the civil war.

More Americans have died of COVID-19 than Union soldiers were killed on the battlefield during the Civil War. It’s a sobering statistic that comes at a time when Confederate statues are being toppled across the country.

It didn't let us know how COVID stacks up against other scary things like sharks, assault weapons, and the boogaloo boys.

Then after all that we discover Texas isn't in first place. WUT?

New York has 417,894 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic as of Monday morning. California now has the most cases in the nation, with 459,576, and Florida is a close second with 423,855.

So Texas is third and Florida is 4th.

I asked a mathematics expert to run some numbers.

California population 40 million/ cases 459,576/ % infected 1.1
New York population 20 million/ cases 417,894/ % infected 2.0
Texas population 30 million/ cases 395,242/ % infected 1.3
Florida population 21 million/ cases 423,855/ % infected 2.0

Yeah yeah yeah, new cases are increasing in Texas and Florida, but new cases aren't stopping in NY and California.

NBC should be aired on Comedy Central.

When presenting the numbers as a percentage, the decimal needs to be moved to the right by 2 places. Thus infected rates are:

as I pointed out in another thread, the normal death rate in the US daily is about 7 thousand to 8 thousand even before covid
that means at least 1,260,000 died from the beginning of this year, no one knows how many numbers from this were donated to the COVID 19 casualties to inflate the numbers.

Are they comparing all the pneumonia // flu deaths as well ?

Most people aren't losing any sleep over Civil War casualties or Covid casualties.

There are thousands of things that kill people.
