So, I just ticked my wife off. How did I commit such a foul?

I was standing. In the hallway. Minding my own business... and... it was dark...

She accused me of looming... as if! I was clearly lurking...

Frankenstein was a loomer... as were most Scooby-Doo villains. Bela Lugosi... now, he was a lurker. He mastered lurking. I lurk like Bela...

I was NOT looming... I was clearly lurking.

So...what say you, ATS? Are you a loomer, or a lurker?

Do you practice the craft? (I do... it really freaks out people at Safeway...)

I was trying to figure out why one of our cats just scratched the crap out of me... then, tried to clean my fingers. I was a little weirded out, to be honest.

The ex used to do that all the freaking time and I hated it. There's nothing like coming out of a room into a dark hallway and running right into another person. Scared the crap out of me every damn time.

Umm, there is a clear distinction between the actions lol.

Looming would be innocently just being there.

Lurking would be actively intending do be there.

The dictionary definition of "looming" is "appearing indistinctly", so it's necessarily defined by what the other person can see. Your intention has nothing to do with the matter. There is no reason why the two should not overlap; your intention may be to lurk, and the objective effect may be that you are looming.

I think all cats are descended from aliens. I think someone dropped off a boy and girl cat from another planet thousands of years ago, and all cats are descended from them, hence aliens. Okay, I veered off subject, sorry. I’m gonna say you were looming. To me looming is a little more intense than lurking. And the wife is always right anyway, doncha know?
