I don't have the email sent out to all US citizens in China from the US Embassy, but I have a feeling there is some "if in the know, get the fk out of China now".
China is already closing its borders and have for some time. Hell, even here in Japan we have closed our borders.

FWIW news outlets are confirming now that the US State Dept has demanded China CLOSE this embassy location in Houston.

So many questions for me:

* why this location?
* why now?
* were there particular events related to THIS location that pertain to intellectual property theft and espionage?
* how will China respond?

Attentions ladies and gentlemen; turbulence ahead.

Without question they will retaliate, it's a matter of when and which embassy they will shut down.

I don't like this, unless it's more 4D chess from Trump, and an agreement has already been reached 'off the record' on both sides to close embassies as a premeditated play, just for optics.

Never should countries shut down diplomatic channels unless war is imminent or currently ongoing. This does not look good.

Well the Russian coinsulate in san fran was ordered to be vacated by September 2017. Then in January 2018, over 200 russians were killed by american firepower in a defensive operation against them in eastern Syria.

Maybe in four months time, we could see naval hostilities around their illegally built military islands . usa japan and India recently finished a joint maritime operation all up in their grill in South china Sea around those islands.

I live in Houston and have been at/near the Chinese Consulate many times. It's (somewhat oddly) right in the middle of the predominantly gay district in Houston (Montrose), in which I lived for a few years. It's also right next to a cool record shop. One day, the shop's parking lot was full and I, being young and not caring, parked accidentally in one of the Consul-General's parking spots across the street. Some angry Chinese guards came after me. Was pretty hilarious!

Anyway, as far as this news, from what I'm hearing our friendly Houston consulate was being used as a major staging ground for industrial espionage, online influencing, hacking - just lots of nefarious stuff. The government found out and the president ordered it closed, and rightly so. They panicked and started burning evidence. Not the brightest bulbs in the bunch on that one.

I'm not saying this isn't serious, but if we use our critical thinking skills instead of panicking and doom-porning, China doesn't really want armed conflict with the USA. They want/need our money, not destroy the hand that feeds them (buys all their junk). This is more about a major spy cartel operating out of that building that got found out. They will retaliate by closing one of our consulates in China, and life goes on.

Politicians sold us out and lined their own pockets and that of their families to a gd Communist country. What the hell did they expect would happen!
