, and racism too it seems, since there's never been a black pope (that I know of), though there have been a few black cardinals qualified for the job.

Cardinal Arinze was one of the Cardinals 'on the short list' last time.
I was hoping for him. Awesome man with a lot of common sense.
(I was able to get a picture with him on the day our daughter became an American citizen).

None of the above.

There will be no new pope.

Francis is the last pope according to the prophecies of Malachy.

They should let the new pope be muslim as well for equality reasons.

The way Pope Francis acts, he could very well be a (not so secret) secret muslim.
A lot of what he does favors them more than the Catholics he is supposed to be shepherding.

yeah good to see you back!

I do not agree with your assessment that Bergoglio was elected only because he was Latin American or so. There were other Latin American candidates, the Brazilian cardinals were expected to be elected in both 2005 and 2013 conclaves. They failed to gather majority though. The talks of reform were loudly expressed in the pre conclave sessions where exactly the US cardinals played the role of the PR speakers to the public (the sessions are closed although not as secretive as the conclave is). The US cardinals didn't hope to be elected themselves, but they played a major role, if not for the conclave itself then for the public opinion that the conclave is to elect a reformer pope because a reform is needed.

So I do not agree that Bergoglio was elected only because he is Argentinian with Italian heritage. I'd rather agree with Udio of the white haired Jesuit, but that was exactly Bergoglio-Francis. The question is, what comes after that? And if you think no pope will be elected, then what exactly do you mean by that?

My personal view:

1. either an ultra libral (German or not) who will push the things very far.

As a result the ultra conservative that have several cardinals will make their own conclave and elect cardinal Sarah without majority (antipope).

2. or an outsider, not a cardinal, whether he will be an archbishop or a holy monk, IDK, with the hope to repeat the history of a saint who restores the Church. Only such a saint in most cases will not advance the reform, so the choice will be really careful. And since we have no idea whom the cardinal electors might think of outside of their own circle, it is really hard to make any suggestions.
I am equally divided between the two options.

I do not see any viability in Vatican insider who will prolong the already failed slow reform in Francis-2 term.

I do not see realistic chance for the conservative cardinals Sarah, Muller or Burke to be elected by majority cardinals.

And however tempting cardinal Tagle is, imagine he is the next pope...you will have to listen to him for hours, literally, and agree to a Philippine style that is not quite the style of Catholicism for the rest of the world. Also, he is very young, that makes a looong pontificate.

Repetition of a Latin American, like the ageing cardinal Maradiaga, would make sense. But why to give another decade to Latin American if Francis tried his best with people like Maradiaga at his right hand, and he frankly FAILED to perform a meaningful reform?

I mean exactly that. I doubt that there will be a Roman Catholic elected to the Chair of Peter.
There may be a New World Order Pantheistic Troglodyte, who is trying (and failing) to pass himself off as Catholic, assigned.
(oh wait .. that's already happening now ...)

But no real pope. Doubt it.

What comes after Petrus Romanus?

In the extreme persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit ...

Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations:

and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed,

and the terrible judge will judge his people.

The End.

z3news.com...

In 2011, Tom Horn accurately predicted the 2012 resignation of Pope Benedict XVI, the 265th Pope. Pope Francis replaced him, taking office on March 13, 2013. Everyone agrees Pope Benedict XVI was the 111th Pope since Malachy’s prophecy. So, Pope Francis appears to be the 112th, the one who must fulfill the prophecy. However, Tom Horn believes Pope Francis is not the one.

“I believe Pope Francis was not canonically elected. I believe some hanky-panky went on in the conclave. In fact, I think that has something to do with why he picked St. Francis of Assisi as his namesake. His real name is Bergoglio, as you know, because Francis of Assisi prophesied about the final Pope and he said he will not be canonically elected. Now that means that he’s a placeholder for reasons that we can’t quite figure out, but I believe he’s either going to be removed from office or he’s going to step down like Benedict did, soon. And the guy that comes up to take his place is actually going to be the real Pope 112 by election, Petrus Romanus.

The people that actually… some of the Cardinals that voted for Pope Francis now want him to step down. They’ve published this. It’s in the news. They want him to step down and they want him to be replaced by the Secretary of State at the Vatican whose name literally means Petrus Romanus, Peter the Roman.”

I hope one that is not a communist/socialist. The Vatican has been infiltrated by communists for years, now they have one at the top.

What a pile of Crud, seriously have you never read the bible or something.

Go and sell all you own and give it to the poor then come and follow me.
A fool who built a barn to house all his treasure but died before he could spend any of it so who got it then.
If you have two coat's and your brother has non go and give him the one you are not using.

The Church WAS infiltrated by robber baron's but there time has passed, it was turned into a seat of debauchery and opulence but that time has passed.

Build up your treasure in heaven.

The bird's of the air has it's nest, the fox has it's hole but the son of man has no place to lay his head.

As you treat the LEAST of these (the poorest and most wretched) so too do you treat me.

Your version of the church is actually marching straight into hell you do know that don't you, this pope at least cares about the poor, so did John Paul the second and before him though his reign was far too short and just perhaps his reform's would have gone too far in some cases so too was John Paul the first (the murdered pope, not the first nor the last to suffer that fate).

Commies were wrong because they followed Marx an Atheist, Royalists were wrong because they made King's there king (you can only serve one master) when in Christs kingdom HE is King and bankers, well Christ kicked them out of the temple when he found them changing money and selling sacrificial animal's in the courtyard of his/his fathers house.

Well interesting what Tom Horn writes. But the pope is not a president and there isn't the option the sec of state to be acting pope. Instead, elaborated rules start with the resignation of the pope, with commission of three cardinals ruling each day and changed the next day with other three during the interregnum.

Will Parolin be elected on the next conclave? This is the candidate most often named by the msm. But as the old saying goes: "He who enters the conclave as papabile, exits as cardinal." I don't think the cardinals will want to prolong the current course with Parolin sec of state elected pope, after the current course didn't give the expected results for more than 7 years. Moreover, Parolin is not looking like cardinal Montini - Paul VI who was next to John XXIII during Vatican II Council.

You think it is the nwo and the Vatican bank who elect the popes? 120+ cardinal electors from all corners of the world...
Do you think there will be a schism and a conservative second pope elected with minority votes, maybe as little as 5-10 cardinals who know they cannot win otherwise? Especially if the majority elects cardinal Marx that is unacceptable for the conservatives and not only because of his name?

Here are the pictures of the main contenders. I cannot edit OP anymore. The information below is from Wikipedia

Pietro Parolin
Secretary of State since October 2013 and a member of the Council of Cardinal Advisers since July 2014. Before that he worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See for thirty years, where his assignments included terms in Nigeria, Mexico and Venezuela as well as more than six years as Undersecretary of State for Relations with States.

Robert Sarah
Guinean prelate of the Catholic Church. A Cardinal since 20 November 2010, he was appointed prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments by Pope Francis on 23 November 2014.
A prominent voice of the College of Cardinals and in the Roman Curia, Sarah has been a forceful advocate for the defense of traditional Catholic teaching on questions of sexual morality and the right to life, and in denouncing Islamic radicalism.

Óscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga
Cardinal of the Catholic Church from Honduras. He is the current Archbishop of Tegucigalpa, President of Caritas Internationalis and was President of the Latin American Episcopal Conference (CELAM) from 1995 to 1999. Rodríguez was elevated to the cardinalate in 2001. He was the Vatican's spokesman with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, on the issue of Third World debt.
In 2009, Cardinal Maradiaga agreed with Pope Benedict XVI that condoms cannot be of any real benefit in the fight against AIDS.
Maradiaga believes the Church must be “open” and in “constant dialogue,” following the Second Vatican Council’s example in rejecting attitudes of “arrogance and superiority.”

Reinhard Marx is a German cardinal of the Catholic Church. He serves as the Archbishop of Munich and Freising.
Cardinal Marx has taught that Catholic doctrine remains the same, but the church's understanding of it changes over time.
In June 2017, Cardinal Marx called for the global church to admit more women into top leadership positions.
In 2018, Marx and a majority of other German bishops supported a proposal to allow Protestant spouses of German Catholics to receive the Eucharist at Mass.
In September 2016, Cardinal Marx and Lutheran bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm jointly created a document titled 'Healing Memories - Witnessing to Jesus Christ', ahead of the 500 year anniversary of the Protestant reformation, calling for healing of past wounds between Catholics and Protestants.

Odilo Pedro Scherer
Brazilian Cardinal of the Catholic Church, who has been the Archbishop of São Paulo since March 2007.
In the international media, he was mentioned as a possible contender to succeed Benedict XVI, who resigned in 2013.
(ref: according to MSM Cardinal Sherer failed to secure majority at the start of 2013 conclave, so the cardinals moved on to consider other candidates ultimately reaching majority for cardinal Bergoglio).
Scherer is considered to be theologically moderate.
He once criticized liberation theology's use of "Marxism as a tool of analysis," but supported its focus on social injustice and poverty.
Cardinal Scherer has argued that removing crucifixes in public places would not be in the best interests of Brazilian secularism.

Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle
Filipino cardinal of the Catholic Church, and Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples since December 2019. He was the 32nd Archbishop of Manila from 2011 to 2020. Tagle also serves as the president of Caritas International.
Tagle has been involved in many social issues in the Philippines, with emphasis on helping the poor while defending the Catholic Church's opposition to abortion,[4] contraception (equated with abortion in the Philippines),[5] and what he has called "practical atheism".
Tagle has criticized the Church for using "harsh words" to describe LGBT as well as divorced and remarried Catholics,[11] whom he believes should be allowed to receive Holy Communion.

You can add more names to the list, including of non-cardinals (but not rock stars)

You won't find much sympathy or respect for the Vatican on ATS, but that aside, I really feel it's time for Catholic church to come into the 21st century and elect a female as the next Pope. Just imagine the possibilities...

That type of logic is why the world is in the state that it's in.

a reply to: 2012newstart First, thank you for your thoughtful thread. You laid out the schism in the Church simply and clearly. That said I wonder at that fifth possibility, you know, the one where you suggest the ''unthinkable'' that could happen. On that note I offer you the possibility of His Holiness, Pope Trumpus the First.

I mean, that guy, who never if ever went to church but some how convinced masses of Protestant types that he now was God's agent in this world today and who because of this belief have supported him and his lies and fumblings as 'all part of God's Plan'', then what is to protect Catholics from falling to the same kind of thinking.

As soon as Trump catches wind that there may be some position in this world more powerful than the president of the United States, he might not run for a second term or even resign claiming that he has converted to Catholisim and would make himself a candidate of Popdom.

Seriously though,,,,,,,why not. With the history of the Church along with the sordid accounts of the Papacy over it's time , and rival Popes and varying Papal Seats, who is to say.

But not being Catholic or even any denominationalist I realy have no ablity to judge any of it, only observe the power plays between the various power blocks in the world today.

Maybe Trump-a-didlyumpus the First. Kind of new and avant guard huh?

I of course use Trump in the above fantasy as a symbol of the falsness of most if not all power players in this world. How much of any or no change at all in any Christian power structure has much at all to do with ''what would Jesus want'' as compared to the faulty human biases of those who think they have either a better interpretation of the Bible or even worse, a closer and more direct line with God.
