Consensus is building on social media that the explosion may have taken place at a military base in or near Tehran, where nuclear activity was being conducted and where UN International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA) inspectors were barred from entry by Iranian authorities. The Parchin military complex is located just 20 kilometers (about 12 miles) southeast of downtown Tehran.

1.2 million households(?) without electricity could also just have been a power plant.

Could also be an EMP. But I figure Iran would have known about those if they were at that level?

Well maybe they managed to nuke themselves.

Of course if they did they would blame it on Israel.

It's an explosion. And you can count in it that someone blames Israel or the US.

The explosion heard and seen by residents in the Iranian capital Tehran occurred in the military complex of Parchin, resulting in a fire that was controlled by firefighters and causing no casualties, local media quoted a Defense Ministry spokesman as saying. The explosion felt by Tehran residents hours ago took place in an industrial gas warehouse near a Ministry of Defense headquarters, according to reports.
no dead apparently but it did happen.Didnt something like this happen back in 2014 as well? guess pompeo just announced new sanctions right before the explosion so they may have trouble replacing anything hard to get that may have blown up

Reports from Iran media saying that the explosion east of Tehran was caused by a natural gas reservoir.
Nothing confirmed yet.

If it was HUGELY CATASTROPHICALLY MAJOR, global seismometers would register it, would they not?

When North Korea had an explosion under their nuke test mountain, seismometers were the first thing to alert the world.

Coincidence ??

Al-Qaeda is using Iran as safe haven, says State Department report

Nathan Sales, ambassador-at-large and the US coordinator for counterterrorism, describes Iran's connections to al-Qaeda as "no surprise."

Maybe not an issue at the moment , or any longer..
