So my dad's side left Ireland due to mass starvation and came here being treated as the lowest class in America. My mom's side escaped from Germany just before Hitler took over. They were wealthy and part Jewish, lost everything, and I mean everything. My mom told me they would pick dandelions to make soup.

The average person is way, way different. I’d add that’s true for all races. The point the OP kind of skips over is the average white guy is probably doing better financially than a black guy, has probably been arrested less, etc.

But, I’d say that we’re probably still doing better than many countries in regards to the treatment of black people specifically. That’s not a real high bar to clear though...

Good points. Slavery here was pure evil. No question. But if those poor, wretched slaves weren’t transported here in unspeakable conditions, where would their descendants be today? If alive at all and still living where their ancestors came from, they’d be in west Africa. The vast majority of slaves who ended up in America were first enslaved by other black Africans (reparations due?). So maybe they would have served as slaves of other Africans if there wasn’t a market for slaves in America.

But if America never had slavery, it’s likely the ancestors of African Americans would have ended up elsewhere in the New World. British citizens, e.g., bought at least 2 million black slaves to work their Caribbean plantations. The Portuguese imported at least 4.6 million. The best current estimate is 12-13 million black slaves were transported to the New World, and fewer than 500,000 ended up in what is now the USA, with about 30 percent arriving after 1776.

If you look up the per capita GDPs of every African nation bordering on the Atlantic, you’ll find they’re very low. Third World levels. And while many, probably most, black Americans think they’re treated unfairly in America, they might not like how they’d be treated by west African police and soldiers, not to mention government officials and judiciaries. The Economist Intelligence Unit rates only three west African nations as having democracies, but classifies them as “flawed“ democracies: Ghana, Namibia and South Africa. I don’t think many ancestors of African Americans came from Namibia or South Africa, which are way south.

Liberia, which was granted independence by the United States in 1847 under pressure from Great Britain. Liberia was granted official U.S. diplomatic recognition in 1862. It was the first independent democratic republic in African history.

Prior slaves didn't really want to go back so it wasn't very successful.

The issue is how blacks treat each other. I saw real racism in the 60’s. This is nothing. 9 blacks were killed by police this year, yet they kill each other at the rate of 3000 every six months. The have babies without being fathers over 70% of the time. Blacks should start treating blacks better before demanding the rest of the country do something . This is nothing but an anarchist movement with no real leader and its rudderless. The whole thing is just get people calling each other racists. Because they have no facts behind what they’re doing

So you are lumping ALL black people together?

The FACT is that environment has a bigger impact on people than race or ethnicity.

Address some of the social issues and many of the things you mention will reduce rapidly.....but of course that means looking at some of the fundamental flaws in our societies.

Oh, and for the record I think BLM is one of the most divisive movements I've seen in my fast approaching 55 years on this earth and has set race relations back decades and I despise the politically correct, hypersensitive snowflakeism that is infesting our countries at present.

Zimbabwe was once known as the 'bread basket of Africa'.
The economy has been ruined, the farming industry run into the ground yet it is being put forward as the model which the South African fovernment is trying to emulate.

There are some great stories in Africa yet all we hear about here in 'the west' is about the endemic corruption, tribalism and other negatives.
It's true that these things exist, and on a level that far exceeds anything that has occurred here for a long time, and they need to be reported with a degree of honesty and openness that most politicians, news outlets etc refuse to do so for a number of reasons but there needs to be balance. And that includes reporting some of the success stories coming out ot the African continent.

I don't agree with everything BLM ascribes to nor am I a card carrying member BUT I must say that their awareness and fight for change of the disparities within the criminal justice system towards black and brown people is an awareness that is finally bringing change. It may not be the change we envision but it is forcing our collective way of thinking. Police reform is being revamped, funding is ramping up, policies are changing and the global awareness is much welcomed.

Some people will never agree and they will more divisiveness than benefit of what BLM is doing OR they will rather point blame toward black on black crime issues rather than see the wave of change taking place from the top (judicial system) down to the bottom (law enforcement).

The change is good, the change is welcomed and the change is a must.

I will give you one example, I know of others, there are many.

In the UK a man called Shaun Wallace, is a barrister and a top 'Quizzer' admits

to being stopped and searched by police often, and he just opens his bag and

shows them his (wig and gown trappings of the British justice system) He is a

clever highly educated man. He doesn't take umbrage at this which it could be

said he is entitled to.

His attitude is (I have seen him interviewed) *personal responsibility*

Education is the same for all if you don't make use of your opportunities own up

to it and don't lay the blame on being disadvantaged...........or black.

If you don't know of him he is black.

Africa enslaved blacks, as well as white Europeans for far longer than the U.S. has. Should we also mention the Muslim slave trade, and how Mohammed himself participated in the enslavement of not just men, and women, but children as well?... Not to mention the child marriage that to this day exists in these countries...

To this day slavery is legal in various African and Middle Eastern countries. i haven't seen you, or your socialist comrades, demand from Africa and the Middle East reparations to blacks AND WHITE Europeans, including from the U.S. Before the slave trade started in the U.S. it already existed in Africa and ME countries for hundreds of years...

The first English Colony was established in North America in 1607. The first slaves arrived in 1619. A mere 12 years from foundation.

Black population in the U.S.?... 47.8 million.
Africa, if Africa has only 4,000 rich blacks from a population of 1.341 billion, most of them being black.) Which still means that by percentages there are way more black rich people in the U.S. than in Africa.

Don't project your fantasies on me... Ironic how of course you want to ignore the history of slavery in Africa and the Middle East, which have a far worse record, and for much longer time than in the U.S. Not to mention the fact that slavery still exists in various African and ME countries...but let's just ignore that or the fact that for hundreds of years the northern Muslim countries in Africa attacked merchant and passenger ships from Europe and the U.S. and who knows how many white people were enslaved...
