There is still N0 transparency on this yet and that eats balls imho

still not clear :

Is it the case that with the site gone , all historic content will go with it ?

For clarity's sake , at the moment if you search with a username a thread title and the site name ( ATS ) you can get the stored content of a particular thread.

That's good enough for archives sake... but will that NOT be the case AFTER the website itself is closed ?

WILL ALL CONTENT BE REMOVED FROM THE WWW

¿????????

The answer is yes, it will be gone. When a bot indexes content and you click it, it links to whatever content you clicked. Some content is still there after being indexed so you get it. Some content has been removed but the site hasnt informed the bot so you click it and you get a 404.

If ATS goes away, for awhile results will still be indexed, but they will lead to nothing if theres nothing serving the request.

I think everyone who uses this site needs to be told that if you keep blocking ads, it's the end.

We did that, almost 3 years ago.

For people using ad blockers, we injected alternate images into the space where an ad would go. The images contained the message to stop using ad blockers.

Membership freaked out.

It was one of the most wide-spread drama episodes in the history of the site.

Aggressive entitlement was rampant.

If a buyer is not found, and revenue cannot support hosting costs. Yes.

I thought it was self-evident.

Those are the same people who think it's okay to steal music, TV shows and movies online.

I remember when certain level posters didn't get ads and then we did, I dealt with it since I understood it was keeping the lights on. Too bad it's too late to turn that feature back on.

What about web crawlers and archivists ?

You'd think this d be exactly some of the right content to keep

Or is it copyrighted so you r e keeping it from archivists

Edit: Gonna try to say this nicer.

Irony:

"The new ATS sucks. Also, everyone who doesn't think like me is dumb."

I really doubt this is gonna work, but it should be a relatively simple matter to create a banner that floats on every page stating that the site is gonna haveta close in X months if people don't turn off their ad-blocker on this site?

What you shoulda done is what many sites do, a free version with adds and a paid version without adds.

Give people an option.

Instead your option was, suck it up and allow adds or block them and give you no revenue at all.

Clearly people do not want adds, and clearly you wanted revenue, to not give an option to both gain revenue, and allow for no adds was a death wish waiting to happen.

The mudpit hasn't helped traffic. I rarely open any threads in that forum, and when I do, I always regret it. That's a good chunk of the content which ends up being of little consequence to me, so why would I pay for access to such a site? Eliminate the mudpit, and it becomes a more attractive option.

For sure changes will have to be made and will be if the site perseveres.

All good things must come to an end.

18 years is a pretty good run for a website.

My guess is that things are pretty bad and it won't be running much longer. Maybe a month or two more and it's done.

What's the deal? It's easy to deny access with Adblock.
Sell stuff like Infowars. They thrive
Delete old innactive zero-flag threads to save 50% of disk space.
Hire agressive adds company with pop-up windows behind every other click
