it's almost time!

All those damn Starlink Satellites in the night sky,
messing up astrophotography,
causing me to get hundreds upon hundreds of UFO reports at MUFON.

I feel like I work for SpaceX considering the amount of UFO reports I've had to answer and explain what Starlink is.

Well, do you want to be a Starlink Satellite internet, beta tester.

Plug in the damn unit and point the module up at the sky.
Boom!
You got internet with a 8ms ping.

With over 500 Starlink Sat's up there orbiting currently,
Beta Testing opens up this summer depending on your location.

Here is a link to sign up to test it if your interested.

Starlink beta sign up

ETA:
Correction the 8ms is when StarLink is fully operational.
From what I’m reading, we can expect 20 ms latency for the initial version

8ms is an incredibly impressive ping. That was the first thing I was going to ask.

The only thing that would make me more excited is if it was a publicly traded company.

Very cool stuff, I'm in!

By the way, When the service life is up on the Krypton powered module and it falls back to earth will it become Kryptonite?

(Just a little superman joke)

Cool, thanks for sharing I signed up. I really liked there propulsion system.

Starlink satellites are equipped with efficient ion thrusters powered by krypton that enable the satellites to orbit raise, maneuver in space, and deorbit at the end of their useful life. Starlink is the first krypton propelled spacecraft ever flown.

Sorry correction:
the 8ms ping is the upper end of speed, when StarLink is full operational.
This version will have a 20 ms ping.

If this thing allows me to get internet access in the deep woods I will be overjoyed!

I might quit my job head into the forest and live off the land and use my savings to watch movies.

It sounds like I'm kidding but I'm not.

I read that you will need a router type device to target the satellites so I'm really hoping they make it usb powered so I can use solar panels with it.

Well Musk says it’s literally plug it in and point it up.
2 steps that can be done in any order lol.

Hopefully it’s like that and the speeds are as advertised.

After you give them your info they send an email to you. It says:

Starlink is designed to deliver high speed broadband internet to locations where access has been unreliable, expensive, or completely unavailable. Private beta testing is expected to begin later this summer, followed by public beta testing, starting with higher latitudes.

If you provided us with your zip code, you will be notified via email if beta testing opportunities become available in your area. In the meantime, we will continue to share with you updates about general service availability and upcoming Starlink launches.

So basically they'll notify you about beta testing when it starts.

I feel kinda dumb asking this but will this become the standard internet provider for everyone at some point? Is this just an instrument that will eventually be used by Comcast and ATT to provide better service and continue to cost us 60 dollars a month? How much will it cost each residence? Surely it won't be free... will it?

Of course it's free. Just like Tesla was going to to. But internet instead of power.
