He has a responsibility to his family first.

He abdicated that responsibility in order to destroy property and deny people their 1st Amendment right to free expression.

Well, I did not watch the actual video but from what I gather, he was there as a protester and he wasn't involved in the destruction of the statue.

I still feel sad for him and his family but your comment about mom's basement was a good one.
