Apparently the Portuguese, in the 16th century, was the first to engage in the Atlantic slave trade 1526.
They completed the first transatlantic slave voyage to Brazil, and other Europeans soon followed.

I do not support the BLM protests due to the current virus situation , I don't support the thugs that take advantage of them either , the message is lost when the violence starts.

Slavery has been around since the time we began to record history shooterbrody, and probably a hell of a lot longer before.
The thing with history is up until the information age we now live it tended to be the victors rather than the vanquished, or enslaved, that recorded said history.
Moment Black Lives Matter protesters tear down Bristol statue of 17th century slave trader Edward Colston, cover it in red paint and and throw it in the river
The statue, which had been in place since 1895, has been a subject of controversy in recent years. The most recent petition to remove it garnered more than 11,000 signatures. An estimated 10,000 protesters had gathered in Bristol today to march through the city. Avon and Somerset police have said that although the protests are a breach in lockdown regulations, they understand why people want to gather.
