Don't misunderstand me - It indeed might be a race issue - The cop was white and the prisoner was black.

And it is true that there is a history of racism against black people in America.

But aren't they saying this cop already had 17 complaints filed against him for misconduct?
- Why was he still on the police force?

Were all the complaints filed by people of color?

If this cop had killed a white, brown or oriental prisoner would it even had been seen on the news?

Why is it that we have to accept every incident of miscnduct by the police against someone black as racism?

Why doesn't America, including people of color, not accept we have in some cases, a police problem

- Not a race problem

But they have turned this into a race issue, haven't they?

This has created a no win situation - Biots and looting is not helping anyone

- And if anything will generate real racism - Over playing the race card may backfire.

For real?

Its a race thing, white officers killing black people. A race thing.

Come on now you know it is, right? Its as obvious as anything that yet again a black civilian has been murdered by law enforcement happens quite a lot in America y'know??
Its history repeating.

I dont understand your reasoning here? Trying to stir it up?

The rioting needs to stop. They burned the church across the street from the White House last night. 50 Secret Service agents injured. The authorities are going to get rough, and I don’t blame them.
People are going to start dying in mass quantities and soon.

en.wikipedia.org...

This should explain things. When 13% of the population is committing the majority of violent crime there is going to be a difference in the rate of blacks killed by police per 100,000, and whites killed by cop per 100,000. It is simple statistic. Look at the percentage of murder convictions by African Americans. Over 50% for a group who is 6% of the population (I am taking out AA females). They deal with more violent AA Males than any other race, so it will obviously be disproportionate.

It's never right, for a cop to kill someone unarmed, like what happened, but you have to look at all the facts.

Why does almost everyone insist on black killed by white police officer? It should be man killed by police officer.

Does color matter to you so much that you would have ignored the whole incident if George Floyd were white? Now that is racist.

No wonder my thread speculating that the police training is at fault and it could have been anyone with a similar medical condition that was killed in this manner did not get more responses.

I thought we were supposed to be working towards a society that is color blind.

Look at your history.

It's because of slavery it has always been a " Them And Us " situation And then off course there where the issues in the Deep South regarding how Black People where treated basically up to the 1960's.

The seeds where sow centuries ago.

Let's look at some research:
[NOTE: This is on police shootings - but we can apply it to the case at hand
as deadly force did result in the death of George Floyd ]

THE TRUTH BEHIND RACIAL DISPARITIES IN FATAL POLICE SHOOTINGS

"Reports of racially motivated, fatal shootings by police officers have garnered extensive public attention and sparked activism across the nation. New research from Michigan State University and University of Maryland reveals findings that flip many of these reports on their heads – white police officers are not more likely to have shot minority citizens than non-white officers."

"“We found that the race of the officer doesn’t matter when it comes to predicting whether black or white citizens are shot," Cesario said. "If anything, black citizens are more likely to have been shot by black officers, but this is because black officers are drawn from the same population that they police. So, the more black citizens there are in a community, the more black police officers there are.”

The data show that it’s not racial bias on behalf of white officers relative to black officers when it comes to fatal shootings, and that’s good news..........".

"“Many people ask whether black or white citizens are more likely to be shot and why. We found that violent crime rates are the driving force behind fatal shootings,” Cesario said. “Our data show that the rate of crime by each racial group correlates with the likelihood of citizens from that racial group being shot. If you live in a county that has a lot of white people committing crimes, white people are more likely to be shot. If you live in a county that has a lot of black people committing crimes, black people are more likely to be shot. It is the best predictor we have of fatal police shootings.”

By connecting the findings of police officer race, victim race and crime rates, the research suggests that the best way to understand police shootings isn’t racial bias of the police officer; rather, by the exposure to police officers through crime......."

That's because minorities in American have been taught from a young age that everything is a race issue, whether it truly is or not, all because they were raised by people who grew up when there were race issues. Granted, there are still some issues today, it's not perfect, and I doubt it ever will be since the biggest factor in the equation are humans.

Minorities today need to get over themselves and realize that things will happen to them, and most of the time it's not racist. Especially black people. They're the biggest over-users of that damn race card, yet, they're some of the biggest racists nowadays.

Can't say anything even closely racial to them, but they can say "white boy", "white girl", and their new racial term "wypipo". If you'd like proof of their racism, head on over to The Root blog-site and listen to how they talk about everyone, especially black people who don't agree with them.

I am a brown minority, I grew up in a small, racist redneck town and dealt with a lot of crap growing up. I also saw how as time went on, things were getting better. It was nice, all the way to what I feel was 2012, then things started getting worse and now here we are. You can't have a case were people seem to know each other and something bad happened because of it without someone throwing down that damn race card.

If a black man torches a white mans home, and that white man kills that black man, which one of them is the racist?

I say focus on criminal acts and not feelings... But I guess that makes me unpopular.

From what I read, the cop here was white and the suspect was black, and the suspect died of a heart condition... But the cop was also being a total dick at the time.

I'm not taking sides, I don't like either one.
Cops suck and criminals suck.
If either one imposes me or mine they should get shot, but only one of them is allowed to be shot.

Shoot the wrong criminal and your life is ruined.

I'm glad society is facing a reset.

I agree with this. But as usual, a "white cop" kills a "Black Man" and people burn down their damn towns. I will never understand it. People are people. I thought, anyway. Hell maybe I'm wrong, yes?

I predict this thread will not go much past the first page if it makes it there. I find most don't consider this way of thinking to be very popular. Don't talk about it and it won't go away I guess.

Most of us are, it takes a while to reverse generations of racism. But that has to include all races, not just whites.

Ive heard countless times of instances of black folk being profiled or treated differently. A cop killing a black man just puts gasoline on a fire that has been there for many years.

Im sure it's a mix of police problems and racial issues.

The issue is that there has been a constant supply of video footage where a black person gets killed by a cop for little to no reason.

Im not sure how police can interact with people of color better. I don't believe it's just purely a racist thing either though.

"People are people" would be true if America didn't have a very racist past that still has echoes till today.

That's why i never understood the phrase MAGA. Yes we have our issues today, but they pale in comparison to an age like the 50s, 60s, 70s...

You're right in that this an issue of unnecessary excess force by law enforcement upon a civilian. That's the real issue. But for those who want and benefit from a police state, they have to distract and deflect and divide. And making it a race issue does exactly that.... at least until an officer commits such a blatant and brazen cold-blooded murder that everyone has to look at it for what it is: Police brutality and cold-blooded murder.

And when good people of all colors come together to protest, rightfully and righteously, well the PTB can't have that... so they create an even bigger boogeyman... a boogeyman that is even scarier than the abusive cops. They call up their mercenary rabble rousers on retainer to come and turn peaceful protests into violent riots... to loot and burn and rape and assault... and then by golly gee we've got people BEGGING for the police to bust heads and, yes, shoot them dead in the streets. All of them. Every single one. They deserve it, right?

And thus the police state grows with the blessing of the people.

Yeah.. 2012 would be about right.

This has always seemed to be a general police issue to me. Its been a problem for a while, and by framing it through race.. it almost ensures the core issues will not be addressed.

I mean.. Just because its a white dude and a black dude.. People assume racism is involved. Maybe it is, and maybe it isnt, but its that type of thinking that many places were moving away from until the media really stepped up its game, alongside politicians, etc.

235 blacks killed by law enforcement in 2019. Out of tens of millions of police/civilian interactions.

One unjustified killing is too many. But “quite a lot” is a stretch.

If a White cop shoots a black guy, it is always a race issue, but the cop can shoot a white guy and it is ok. If a cop shoots a woman it is a gender issue, only women cops can shoot women I guess.

Just think how many groups would target a cop who shot a transgender black guy who was also gay and now as a woman dating an Asian woman. And if that now woman also was a vegan shot by a meat eater, that would really be bad.
