Even better. You confronted him first thereby giving him the opportunity to make things right. It's on him.

****Adding for clarity.****
He knows I have the information.
I confronted him last time we had a blowout.
He admitted it.
So, it will not surprise him who told.

My boss is a jerk. I need some advice.
I have always been my own boss.
Until the past couple years. Took the easy money.
Background on my Boss.
He is a convicted federal prisoner that did 4 years federal time.
He has never paid his taxes and owes almost two million.
I did a paid background check it all came up.
Problem is he hired me even invited me to work there.
Current Situation:
He is toxic. Runs the place like a prison. It’s all he knows.
He has wild mood swings. You never know what mood he will be in.
He has his snitches everyone else gets nothing.
He is a bully and obviously high and drinks every day.
Problem is he is in a position that strictly bans convicts.
It’s a sensitive position. No I don’t want the job.
If I let it slip he is gone.
He torments old people. Plays one against the other.
Problem is I’m not a snitch. I am struggling with this.
Would you get your boss fired, if you absolutely could ?
Sounds like a hostile workplace environment. Eventually someone will sue the company and get a big settlement.
Which had better be a HUGE settlement, because that "someone" won't be able to find gainful employment in that career field ever again...

Means nothing without context... lots of people convicted of 'federal crimes' that I don't consider crimes.

Really confused here.
So You see an old man getting beat on the street or a woman getting raped, or Yes YOUR NEIGHBOR, abusing Their child/ren, and You just move on and let Karma take care of it?
Edit: Heros stand up and do the right thing!!

Yes, you are...

Not even in the same universe, dude.
If the OP asked what I would do if I caught him beating or even raping a fellow employee - well, he'd either be in the hospital, or if it was the second one, morgue (or the hospital wishing he was in the morgue).
Those two instances are not even remotely the same as simply being an abusive boss.
Edit: Heros stand up and do the right thing!!
Heroes don't go crying to mommy and daddy. They handle the situation themselves.
So, I'll answer again, depending on whether or not the abuse was physical and/or how bad it was, I'd either leave/quit and find other employment, or kick his ass until he stopped.
But here is the problem... I've had problem neighbors before... feuds like that don't end well. Some people are really, really messed up, and you end up with slashed tires, keyed cars, and all kinds of other problems if you call the cops.
So, either quit, or be prepared to go to all out war and end their life (or have yours ended), because with some people, thats the only way.
