Thank you for that. I've had a quick look and it seems basically once again, testing is flawed. Great. Antibody tests can't tell who is infected only who was infected, PCR can say who is infected but not if they have antibodies or immunity. So more tests needed basically

I have just found another article from CBS which may be of interest. It seems the news is fast spreading from earlier this evening in which is it stated that

“If the virus is in the testes but not the sperm it can’t be sexually transmitted,” says Jingtao Guo, Ph.D., a postdoctoral scientist at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah who also co-authored the study. “But if it is in the testes, it can cause long-term damage to semen and sperm production

I think a lot of tests, like PCR, are actually working exactly as they are supposed to. They were just never really designed to give positive/negative type results or be used for diagnostic purposes due to the nature of amplification cycles.

Its become increasingly difficult tp figure out exactly what testing methodology is used, and has never been easy to find out how many amplification cycles were used from test to test even on the same patient.

I don't know but apparently they don't test positive in the blood tests but 4 were found to test positive in the semen. As the Op says, they are still researching as to why this would be the case, and also whether the presence of the virus in the semen was higher at a more chronic stage of the disease or lower recovery stage or even after recovery like Ebola.

Really?
Where is this "study?"
Please provide the scientific or medical links. And not some common news paper that is attempting to make sales.
If you can't, then this needs to go to the HOAX bin.

I don't believe for a moment you actually read the articles and have no clue why you would think it was a hoax without researching it yourself. Look I can only go on what's readily available, and as this "news" is now in all the regular media sources, which is normally proof enough for most. Not like I made it up on the bloody hoof!!But here you go have fun. This has only just gone up today and is NOT peer reviewed yet and was only translated today also...there was little point putting up the full chinese language version

And here's something else to consider, way back in 2011 it was discovered that influenza was also found in the semen and as a result contributed to poor semen quality and pathology

Not sure? Good point to look into. I’m waiting for confirmation that it directly attacks the testes.

Not making your question obsolete, just an intriguing original and apparently one of many ways this virus destroys bodily systems.

Between the questions surrounding sexual transmission and possible damage to fertility/virility, I’m reeeaaaallly
curious about the neurological/psychological affects on the infected.

If you have a look at the 2 links I posted above, you will see that influenza also attacks the testes and creates poor quality sperm and pathology, so its quite likely that with coronavirus, as with Ebola, it could affect the reproductive system but as yet its too early to tell

Just as I thought. There is NOTHING in the link you supplied jamanetwork.com...
that states that patients with a negative blood test show positive in semen. Furthermore, China AND the W.H.O. are involved in the micro study of 23, yes 23 men!

This needs to go to the HOAX bin.

I have given you the evidence and the study you required. Blood tests have been proven ineffective as the virus isn't carried in the blood but in the respiratory system, blood plasma tests are only normally used for antibody detection, the tests for semen and other covid-19 tests are different tests

You stated,"

But if you meet someone and they are to all intents and purpose immune, if there is no trace of the virus in the blood tests but unknowingly there is still "live" virus in the semen or vaginal fluid, then we could have problems"

I challenged you on this false statement. You then provided the link that DOES NOT MENTION " if there is no trace of the virus in the blood tests..."

NOWHERE in this study, that you provided a link for, shows that the 23 patients blood tests were negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Stars and flag denied.
You have been trapped by the Chinese W.H.O. lies.

When I said blood tests in my post I was referring to a poster regarding antibodies and immunity who asked if the antibody tests were blood and semen or just blood. I'm not a doctor bacteriologist or immunologist I am merely reporting as I see the articles. If I have made an error in terminology that doesn't invalidate the information or the study or the various articles, nor does it constitute as a hoax. I'm old and senile clearly. I state quite clearly in the opening op and further along, that the study was very small, and that it required further study to see the long term effects of the presence of coronavirus in the semen in terms of reproduction and sperm viability and whether or not the virus could remain active and for how long.
