Based on results of the first round of testing, the research team estimates that approximately 4.1% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus. Adjusting this estimate for statistical margin of error implies about 2.8% to 5.6% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus- which translates to approximately 221,000 to 442,000 adults in the county who have had the infection. That estimate is 28 to 55 times higher than the 7,994 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to the county by the time of the study in early April. The number of COVID-related deaths in the county has now surpassed 600.

There have been several studies that have recently been completed that suggest that covid 19 is far more wide spread than previously thought

This is exciting news. If the virus is more widespread then the associated death rate would need to be adjusted so the public would realize that there is less to fear from this virus.

I don't think that we can minimize this event since there have been over 40,000 deaths in the US alone but I do think this study should give us some hope.

Well now we know why the MSN has started trashing the accuracy of these tests.

A Stockholm blood bank found that 11% of donors had the coronavirus antibodies -- with a test that's 70-80% accurate.

Sweden went for herd immunity. If the numbers from that study are even halfway accurate, then we aren't that far off where Sweden is. That means we basically trashed our economy for nothing.

Taking their medium (221,000 to 442,000 with antibodies and 600 deaths) suggests a death rate of 0.2%. Death rate from seasonal flu (50,000 die in US from flu each season) is typically around 0.1%. But if covid-19 spreads 200% more easily than flu, we may have seen at least 200,000 people die from covid-19 in US if they didn't take measures to contain the outbreak. Thats if, the deaths attributed to covid-19 are accurate.

Does this mean that there are 50 times as many people who had mild or no symptom? New York has 252,000 confirmed cases. That would mean that there are 10 million people that have the antibodies in New York alone

Do all coronavirus antibodies test the same?

CDC’s failed coronavirus tests were tainted with coronavirus, feds confirm

This does beg the question is this test picking up some variant of the covid virus and not covid 19

Alternatively, they could also have found a cluster and sampled to many people in the cluster thus skewing the results

As always, more tests are needed.
