Hi. Is there a reason there is no shadow?

Kind regards,

Bally

Near the base of it looks like a round shadow there, not sure if that is a shadow of the white thing on the bottom or the round thing on the top. It appears to have a shadow very small one. At the sun angle it seems to match the surrounding shadow angles with the sun being high in the sky.

Nice crack.

Seems like I’m not the only one thinking there’s nothing to see here, unless you’re a skilled crack-climber and your planning on maybe one day scaling the rocky outcrops of Mars

That would be a fun adventure. Think of all the gems and precious metals. It would be my luck though that this is a real skull marker to stay away and my own head winds up on a pike.

Does anyone have a estimation on the scale here ? How big is this pole thing if that is what it is. Great photography anyways.
Looking closer I believe that it may just be more exposed rocks that have the sand dune sliding downwards around them.

Hard to say how tall it is. Some people have used calculations to tell how far away something is when the rover is on a more flat ground and they have a reference. With hills at a slope and this is far left outcrop of Murray Butte being in the distance would be nearly impossible. Nasa seems to have skipped this part as the rover rolled on by in the canyon at the very beginnings of taking photo's of the butte. Mostly the images starting around sol 1446 and ending sol 1450.

I have a masters in photography, and I can tell you that the lighting on the object in the first two images is consistent with the lighting of the surrounding rocks. It comes from a very steep vertical angle towards the right, slightly away from the camera.

To me, it looks like some kind of plant growing there.

What are your thoughts on the last two? it looks smooth and light shinning off the rounded top and inside concave indented surface. I am not sure what in the world that white things is. Then to the left is a shadow. I am not sure if that is coming from the base or the top. The shadow seems to match the angle of other shadows. It looked very out of place and now there is 2 on the same butte. I took a snapshot of it as I was zoomed in on a panoramic that was several gigabytes in size. I was just following the rocky cliffs line. I can't seem to find that pan anymore.

a reply to: spirit_horse I agree that there are likely secret things we don't get to see. At the foot of this Murray Butte, the bedrock is littered with cracks of quartz like white substance.

Cool images, S&F

The images definitely provoke one's imagination.

Isn't Mars surface quite active, with dynamic weather patterns, including strong winds that can kick up massive dust storms? If the image depicts a surface feature that is some type of rod/pole embedded in the ground, what are the odds it wouldn't be blown over, or eventually be buried from endless wind-blown sand dunes.

I'm inclined to believe it's just an optical illusion, but I'm no specialist on astronomic imagery; a nifty series of pics nonetheless. Thanks for your post!

It looks like it was something mechanical. Weren't there two rovers? Could it be the mast of the other rover?

Good find! Curious indeed what we are seeing. Strange NASA hasn’t shown more interest in them.

I know what you mean there is a lot going on Mars. Mars does have clouds and dust storms. Could be something uncovered who knows. Egypt pyramids and sphinx was buried by sand at one time. There are new discoveries happening all the time. Finding entire cities submerged in 100ft of Sea made up of pyramids, temples, monolithic structures, statues. They have found gold relics too. Like the place been flooded over night.

All of these images and links are from Curiosity, the most recent rover. It's hard to believe what all we sent there so far. Everything from the Viking missions to rovers Sojourner, Spirit, Opportunity, and Curiosity. They are sending 3 more this year the Perseverance being one.

It looks like a line in the sand to me.

When will NASA ever send one of the rovers over to cydonia. Heard their are a few more getting planned to send to Mars. Just a thought

Good find. IDK what it is but maybe a plant-like creature? I'd love to see the thing in better clarity. Has anyone tried looking on Google Mars if it shows up, if you know what the exact location was?

Also I don't believe that the dots in the sky are camera glitches but I know that's what is commonly said, dead pixels or whatever. AFAIK these glitches or dead pixels are not consistent among different photographs... Looks more like objects in the sky imo.
