How long until the food chain breaks down and mass starvation begins in the US due to the lockdown?

I made the mistake of watching the regular alphabet soup news tonight. What I saw was stories on the breakdown of the food chain due to the lockdown.

Farmers were having to send gallons and gallons of milk down the drain because they could not get the milk to market.

A tomato farmer was unable to get workers to harvest his tomatos because of the lockdown and the produce was rotting in his field.

The stores in my area have wide swaths of empty shelves. I know some people say their stores are fully stocked. But in my mid sized city the grocery stores have lots of empty shelves and unavailable items.

Of course the usual toilet paper which I haven't seen on a shelf for over 2 months now. But also empty shelves where flour and rice used to be, also empty shelves in the pasta section, don't even try to find yeast for baking it isn't available. Every week, more and more shelves are empty due to supply chain issues. This is no longer a funny toilet paper joke.

Once there are news stories of fields of rotting food that never gets to market, things are getting serious.

What is preferred after May 1st, starvation or pestilence? If you hate Trump then starvation is preferred over pestilence. If you like Trump then pestilence is preferred over starvation.

This whole thing of house arrest for the vast majority of the US population is forcing this decision. I say house arrest because quarantine separates the ill from the well. What we are under is mass house arrest, with people dragged off buses for not wearing a mask, with people getting $500 fines for being out of their house in cars with windows rolled up.

The talk of allowing people out if they have the "I've had and recovered from the virus certificates will lead directly to desperate people purposely getting infected to get the certificate that lets them off house arrest. There is talk on the "regular" news of the need for massive personal surveillance of all US citizens with the possibility of ankle bracelets to make certain people stay where they are supposed to, like they are doing in other countries.

There is zero talk of going back to "recommended" wearing of masks, social distancing, and good hygiene, allowing people to mitigate and protect themselves if that is what they choose to do. Allowing Darwin award winners to break the rules, and be shunned by those who do follow recommendations. NO politician trusts the American people, which is why the massive US wide house arrest of all citizens.

So here we are not deciding if the US should accept pestilence or starvation. or Draconian, oppressive, and repressive measures that treat adults like preschoolers and exhibit no trust or faith in any adult in the US who is not an elite politician.

The times are ominous and as frightening as living in London during WWII. if the virus doesn't kill you, the lockdown will and the media refuses to even entertain any other options so they can call "I told you so" and play the blame game to win ratings while the country has a total and complete meltdown that will soon include starvation.

From the way things are going, the souless part is already happening with the mental health problems that are running rampant in the US. So you are on target there for sure.

With everyone under house arrest and not allowed to work, starvation and totally empty shelves may begin just after the DNC formally nominates Biden, so they can blame Trump as usual.

No joking aside, I forsee this happening and it is not pretty.

If the leftists in this country can make it happen, it will happen.

It's right in front of our eyes now how they will destroy your business, risk your life and livelyhood, just to gain power.

It's just a bonus for leftists if you actually end up dying.

Ok, prime example of why NOT to watch the news.
Damn!

Milk.
They are not dumping milk, because they can't get it to market.

They are dumping milking, because despite the empty shelves you see in the store, they have too much. Schools aren't using it, bakery's aren't buying it, ect.

So no, there is no shortage of milk.
Plenty of dairy cows doing what they are supposed to be doing.

Sticking your head in the sand doesn't make reality go away.

Yes this is correct & more. I'm here in the Dairy capital of the world (or at least the US)
They were talking about dairy problems for at least a year. The thing is people are realizing that
dairy is not healthy. People just don't drink it with every meal like they used to.
What you have seen with the dumping would have happened regardless of COVID or not.

Also most places in the US have so much food growing everywhere you can practically throw a rock and hit something edible.
Kudzu - edible
Hostas - edible
Dandelion - edible
Cattails - edible

I could go on and on. It's not that we don't have food, it's that people don't know what is all around them.

They always dump milk, america isn't drinking enough milk. An entire tariff war with Canada was over not enough milk being consumed by American's.

There will be no food shortage in the US, maybe spices for a bit, but food will never stop flowing unless a complete meltdown of the world economy happens.

What about the story's on the mainstream news about crops rotting in the fields?

Is it because the schoolchildren aren't out there bringing in the crops and restaurants won't send their workers to help?

Do you have a slow cooker? If not, get one now, you'll need it unless you're a fan of cheap steaks.

The farmers, are still farming.

We are... our little farm IS home, and it is our work. We have a new batch of ducklings and chicks we are raising. We have started harvesting eggs, and it appears to be a good year ahead. We can't start planting yet, but it isn't far off.

I'd worry more about China... CNN would have you think otherwise, but they are clearly on China's payroll.
