I read an article today I thought I would pass along.
The covid 19 virus is affecting some meat processing plants.

“ The president and CEO of Smithfield Foods Kenneth M. Sullivan issued a stark warning on Sunday that increasing numbers of closures of meat processing plants in the U.S. due to COVID-19 Chinese coronavirus outbreaks among workers has put the nation “perilously close” to meat shortages.”

Smithfield is a Chinese owned company FWI..

Several other companies have been interrupted as well according to the article.

“ In recent weeks several large meat processors including Tyson and JBS announced plant closures due to the virus.”

Not sure if it’s anything to worry about but it’s best to be informed.

ETA.. the FDA says there is no evidence that the virus can be transmitted on the meat but obviously the employees working the plant can’t work while sick.

Even after the economy gets on line, we are going to have shortages for a while. I guess grains might be deficient, we are using some of our reserves up and the weather is not cooperating to plant new crops in some areas.

Hadn’t heard that.
The wheat was in the field last fall and it’s popping up nicely.
It’s not quite time to plant corn or beans yet around here.

heh.

make your own.

It's basically pork shoulder and ham.

www.thewolfepit.com...

Ingredients

5 lbs - Pork Shoulder (ground)
1 lb - Ham (ground)
2 TBS + 1 tsp - Tender Quick
3 TBS - Sugar
3 TBS - Corn Starch
1 TBS - Kosher Salt
1 Cup - Cold Water
Directions
Mix Tender Quick, sugar, cornstarch, Kosher salt and cold water together until everything is dissolved.
Combine with ground meat and thoroughly mix.
Spread mixture into 2 - 9x5 loaf pans and press firmly to remove air bubbles.
Tightly seal with aluminum foil, place into a water bath and then into a 250º oven for 3-3.5 hours or until they reach an internal temperature of 155º.
Remove from oven, place a heavy flat object (I used a brick) on top while still hot.
Let thoroughly cool, then place into the refrigerator with brick overnight.
Remove SPAM from pans and slice as desired.
Enjoy!!

Just put another 5 lbs of jerky in marinade. Have 20 or so in the freezer. Fake shortage anyway caused by people not going to work because there's more money in unemployment.

I wonder if people are starting to understand (yet) the concept that humans were meant to live in small groups. Which is kind of irrelevant because we do so many other things that are not natural for any species on this planet.

I read about this and actually went to the grocery store today.

There was more meat than there has been in the last several weeks. Every kind, pork/beef/chicken.
There we not shortages of any kind. They even had tp & paper towels. Plenty of eggs and milk too.

I think the meat shortages/ certain food shortages might be a regional thing.

Probably right.
We have had lots of empty meat counters but not because of low supplies just to many people buying extra.

Like these fools know how to cook...lol

We’ve got a solution for that around here .

Roadkill ( 1/2 jking)

Deers are dumber than cows.

You know all the years hunting I never could understand why people thought deer were so smart. Your right they may just be dumber than cows.

All I can think of with this caution is maybe cook your steaks a little longer, as soul destroying as that can be.

I love rare steak. 😋
