I'm not the only one seeing this tonight 4/13

Hey everyone.

I'm not saying "aliens" or UFOs in the sense of alien spacecraft. In fact, I'm sure it's not. But someone tell me what the hell I am seeing?

Here in Atlanta tonight, if you look up in the night sky, you can see a steady line of what I guess are airplanes -- very high up, mind you -- steadily flying in a single line fro southwest to the northeast, roughly. They don't have any blinking lights, but just like little stars one after another. I've counted more than 50 so far tonight.

In all my years, I've never seen something so bizarre. Anyone else seeing this tonight? Anyone have any explanations?

Whoa, let's not get too complicated here!

Ah. Elon Musk's pet project! Could be. But based on this Space.com story with video,, they weren't clustered together like this. Kinda a distance apart. I tried taking a video, but my phone sucks in the night.

On my way to look at Starlink.
Hope I don't get fined or arrested for being outside.

Soon after deployment they are close together. Over time, they separate.

You can see representations of the various batches here:

LEt me know if you see them. My observation was around 20 minutes ago and I've since gone inside.

Thank you for not contributing another shaky, blurry UFO video to the Internet.

Hey, it might not be Starlink. There have been other sightings of UFOs in a line but they tend to only be swirling orange spheres in groups of two or three at relatively low altitude. Not to be confused with Chinese lanterns which fly in clusters but usually not dead straight lines.

Probably Starlink, though.

Going to be a busy evening for Starlink here. But it's pretty cloudy, and they're going to be pretty low on the horizon.

I still haven't gotten to see them.

Nope .
I think I got to the party too late.

No, these were definitely terrestrial, but that you brought up Starlink, in my mind, they did appear more like satellites than airplanes. I've seen satellites before -- they do look like slow-moving stars. I just never seen a caravan like that before, both awe-inducing and a little frightening.

Just don't ask what they're carrying.

I like to think the orange spheres are terrestrial, and possibly alive in some way. Don't know, though. Just a thought.

How does anybody not know about Starlink by now, especially people who frequent this forum?

Haven't been on in quite awhile, and I'm more about financial conspiracies than UFOs.

Understood. Didn't mean to be dismissive.

I've seen news reports about it. Astronomers are throwing a fit because once it's fully deployed, it will - according to many - make earth-based astronomy a near impossibility.

Just wait until they start selling Starlink based advertising.

What it is? How I connect? Did it look like this:

Just certain types of astronomy. They only disrupt observations for an hour or so before sunrise and after sunset.

Starlink is trying to mitigate the problem, experimenting with different coatings.

a reply to: FlyingSquirrel They weren't that clustered together, but as someone else pointed out, they'd gain distance between each over time.
