Philippine Sea Plate active

USGS EQ Map

Right now the 24 hour list shows 5 distinct quakes, all above 4.4 upto 5.9 on/near different edges of the plate.

Not predicting doom or anything, but that seems a little odd, even though the area is extremely active and along the "Ring of Fire".

Most recent to first:
5.2 near Chichi-shima, Japan
4.4, Hasaki, Japan
4.5 Papau, New Guinea
5.1 Northern end of Philippine chain
5.9 Southern end Philippine chain

No others above 2.5 in the area, which would also be odd. Wouldn't we expect aftershocks? Our are those all just aftershocks for the 5.9? I'm not even an amateur seismologist; I wish TA was still around!

Seven day looks like this, so maybe this is normal, and I haven't been paying attention. Input welcome.

My hubs was showing me late last night about how we are in a solar minimum and that when in solar minimum there is always an increase in seismic and volcanic activity- like a "cause and effect" situation.

Not sure what web pages he was showing me but I know he only uses reputable, scientific resources when it comes to this sort of thing- it's one of his hobbies.

I noticed quite late last night that Anak Krakatoa is lighting up as well.

Well, if it's God Book related, we're bound to come out alright in the End, but it's a hell of a travail to get there.

Well, it's more like Eastern CA near Yosemite. Actually near Mammoth Lakes, East of Mono Lake and the Long Valley Caldera if we're being doomish. But most anywhere in CA is near a volcanic structure.

ETA: I saw the Krakatoa thing, too!

There was just a 5.1 near Shimodate next to the 4.4 in Hasaki, Japan. Hope we're not going in the wrong direction with aftershock, foreshock.

It felt that way to me without alot of 2.5-4's bubbling around to be aftershocks. BUT it might be foreign quakes are catalogued differently focused on larger quakes. Or might be completely normal for that particular plate and I just don't watch it and recognize it. Either way, it seemed like "Philippine Sea Plate Active" was apt! I try to keep the doom out of it, but thought it was noteworthy enough to start a thread for those of us tired of politics and COVID-19.

Off-topic a bit, but Bodie got a 4.6 on top of their 5.2

anak krakatoa did respond this morning with 2 eruptions...yep pressure building up in the ring of fire...ouchhhhh

btw I still believe that the ring of fire are the edges of an big dent in earthcrust formed when earth collided with another big object and formed the moon in the past......

There was a 6.6 there yesterday off Chichishima, and a 6.3 today not too far from Fukishima.
