the EO is stupid

What do you think it should say?

I see no purpose for it. Other than puffery, all it does is require that a report (about what, exactly, is hard to say) be produced in 180 days.

This has been the plan for a very long time. I'm not sure why there needs to be an executive order for it... Overkill.

2018 article about mining the moon.

2019 article about nasa and Caterpillar making cool mining drones.

NASA JPL infographic about mining the moon...

On another note: invest in helium early. There's a lot of it on the moon.

EDTA: If you dig further through the archives you can find plans to mine the moon from over a deacade ago, and a quick search will turn up results from as far back as the late 90's.

So this president has just declared jurisdiction over the moon and mars. By what justification?

Papal decree? We own it (and them) because I say so (they aren't human, er christian, er....)

Typical Trump crap.

Here's something in the "Moon Treaty" that doesn't seem to be in Trump's EO.

And here's something else that is not in the Moon treaty: US ratification. But don't worry. Chile, Morocco, and a couple of other countries have ratified it. And we all know how robust their space programs are. Plus Chile has all this mining experience. Win/win!!!

The EO is just paperwork. Nothing to get excited about.

Does America now own the moon and Mars?

Only the parts we land on, plant a flag and claim.

It's a new land rush or gold rush, I hope.

Not going to happen to Mars because Aliens. Also moon mining you say? Moon should be left alone as observatory.

Same jurisdiction we used to claim states like CA and TX.

And I got a feeling the Space Force will be able to protect our mining claims.

The moon is pretty big.

Plenty of room for all.

While this sounds great, wouldn't a large solar collector, close to the Sun and beaming the energy to an array of ultra low frequency large terrestrial networked recievers, be a more lucrative project?

I saw that documentary too.

It’s probably a bad idea.

No need to get close to the Sun Just put the large solar collectors on the moon. Shorter jump beaming it back to Earth.

Man hasn't even been to the moon, the Van Allen belt makes this impossible.

it's all a big sham to collect more taxes.

A funny thing happened on the way to the moon.

Big with no atmosphere for the ability to grow food. Don't think so. I could imagine many factory farms replacing all the house holds living space.
