Just a passing curiosity....
I am still pondering my list but I invite commentary on this subject
I am seeking the discernment of the wider audience about contempered metaphors in Movies that reveal a lot of information

Haven't seen any of them, could you briefly provide your rationale for the list?

Jacobs Ladder was a good one about military drugging trying to create super soldiers.

'Smokey and the Bandit" tells a story about Big Brother oppression - When you want a drink you don't need the Government saying No - Stay at Home.

Well Done Burt and Sally.

Clearcut (1991)

If you don't know all the Native ways, this movie will still in a very graphic way get them across to you. It's also pretty grim an grisly. Some of the scenes are a bit dated/cheesy but the information contained is worth it.
Star's Graham Green, Floyd Westerman and a few others I'm forgetting. It's just as relevant today as back in '91.

Because I'm a bit geeky found the places where they filmed part of it at Ouimet Canyon, an at Rainbow Falls both in western Ontario.

Metropolis, sure
Eyes Wide Shut, sure

But Eraserhead ? I saw that when it first came out cuz it was said to be so deep. My friends who saw it with me called it deep but could not offer what it said that was so deep. So I went to see it again. Still nothing. So decades later I watched it again figuring now that I'm older and maybe wiser, and more experienced in stuff, I would find something in it. But nope.

I saw that when it came out. Now, I might have been very drunk when I saw it but I remember coming out saying I had no idea what I just watched. If I get a chance to revisit it I will and see if maybe some years might give me a little wisdom.

I’m not sure anyone would want to make an esoteric movie.
The whole point is to get people to watch, not the opposite..

There are many movies that are misunderstood.

Like the karate kid where the good guy is really the bad guy.

Or ET where the bad guy is really the good guy.

Like starship troopers being a warning against fascism but most people see it as the opposite?
