The "official" IHME model predicted 240,000 deaths WITH social distancing just over a week ago. Today it was revised to 60,000, and if you give a listen to the interview with the Director of the CDC, you'll notice he flat says it was designed to scare people so they would comply. It's all BullSnip

I think the numbers into the hundreds of thousands are accurate. Just wait until we stop social distancing and this thing starts spreading way faster. Until theres a vaccine for this we are going to have to deal with it and the death rate is going to keep climbing. I think its funny some people in here think it will be some low number under 50k. Flus gunna come back again in winter if it slows down in summer. Just watch


How many of these people were going to die anyways because of something else and they just happened to also have Coronavirus no idea but thats prob a big factor also.

Well I’ve had to cancel my wedding, lost my job, have yet to receive Unemployment benefits along with my fiancé who also lost her work, I sure feel a bit trampled on at this time. Glad you’re life is great and been unaffected...

How many people died last year from the flu again? What did we do last year with the economy to stop it?

2018 winter season 80,000 Americans died of the flu according to the CDC. I bet most of us didn’t know or care. Nobody lost their livelihood over it.

The deaths will be lower than predicted because they used inflated mortality numbers and most likely applied three standard deviations of confidence intervals on their worst-case scenario. This is typical within the USDA, FDA and CDC.

No. Deaths will be much lower than projected because of the guy who made the projections: Dr. Neil Ferguson.

Everything we've been basing our numbers on was based in part on his projections because the Imperial College in London is, for some reason, the gold standard in modeling diseases like this. But, Dr. Ferguson has a bad track record of being way, way off in his worst case scenarios.

“Around 40 million people died in 1918 Spanish flu outbreak,” said Prof Ferguson. “There are six times more people on the planet now so you could scale it up to around 200 million people probably.”

A Department of Health contingency plan states anywhere that there could be between 21,500 and 709,000 deaths in Britain.”

The Bird Flu’s death toll from 2003 to 2020 is 455.

This is his prediction for Bird Flu. This is how the actual numbers worked out. No one took any special precautions for Bird Flu.

Dr. Ferguson also modeled hoof and mouth disease in the UK, and based on those projections, *millions* of head of livestock were slaughtered.

Dr. Ferguson was equally off with his death projections for mad cow disease. He made big headlines in the United Kingdom by predicting that mad cow disease could kill between 50 and 50,000. Bill writes: “Millions of cows were slaughtered. But to be fair, his scientific ‘model’ was right. The death toll [is 178 to date].”

At least he made a big enough window to get the actual death toll correct, but is millions for 178 a good trade off?

He also had something to say about CJD (mad cow disease). Remember that one? He thought we'd have well over 136,000 cases of it within 20 years when he made his prediction back in 2000.

In 2000, according to the New York Times, Dr. Ferguson published estimates predicting that the number of variant C.J.D. cases might reach 136,000 “in coming decades.” Twenty years later, it probably isn’t too early to conclude that Dr. Ferguson’s model erred on the high side of what “might” happen in subsequent decades.

Remember, CJD is a slow progressing disease, so measures taken to prevent it in humans aren't going to prevent cases already percolating in that time, and those cases would take years to show up. So, how do you think he did?

This guy is the one our own models are based on.

So let's re-assess why our models might be a bit exaggerated again. It may not be due to our own efforts.



Additionally, here's a comparison of our numbers with Sweden's so far. Sweden hasn't taken near the measures we have, and yet they are comparable on their curve. So are the measures we're taking really doing all that much? Or are our death tolls simply lower because the "very smart people" got it wrong?

The reason it stopped spreading here was the massive socialistic redistribution programs put into place, Sweden already has the socialism so the virus wasn't as effective there.

I love how I and others were being ridiculed for thinking this is BS literally a month ago.

People flamed us hard.

Now, after pointing out then what the data is saying now, lots of folks are getting on board with the idea this isn’t the thing it was made out to be.

I’m glad the tide finally turned, but I’ll spike to the football here and say many people’s tunes are changing on here who were singing the “you don’t understand” song since the beginning.

Hopefully that carries over into the masses so we can get back to living our lives.
