Other countries have a mass shooting every decade or so. In the US, it's every other week. Gun ownership is not protective in the US, it is overwhelmingly destructive.

People are both armed and distrustful. The virus isn't the cause of the problem.

The topic is how this current VIRUS has caused deepening distrust and fear of: everyone outside your home: the media due to biased reporting: the government due to their infighting and telling everyone they should hate/loathe/despise their fellow US citizens who aren't following the "correct political doctrine"

The distrust was here long before Covid19.

I'm sorry, but it seems like there was already plenty of mistrust before the virus.
So much so, I haven't really even noticed an increase. The virus seems to be just another avenue to nurture, justify, and grow that mistrust.
And, we would probably be in a better situation if we weren't so paranoid to begin with...

OK, in other countries, they are now getting the spread of the virus under control.

My guess is that these other countries are grateful for the efforts of their people and their administration in getting on top of a bad situation. I know I admire our government which has risen to the task and coordinated to prevent runaway spread of the virus, as we have seen in other countries.

One of our government's often repeated messages was "Be kind and unite against COVID-19". I think that our response will create a stronger, more compassionate and cohesive community. We are getting through this.

I already hated the federal government and practiced social distancing because of my basic dislike of humans. None of this changes how I feel or conduct myself, however, I had a policy of accepting my death in a SHTF scenario rather than trying to survive it and I feel like I should begin to prep for some less serious situations like the Chinese Virus. I had imagined far worse situations than this pandemic.
