Why is the over 80 or close to over 80 crowd ruling the US and ruling the world?

Here is a short list of Senators and Congresspeople of both parties approaching 80 or actually over 80:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is 78 years old
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is 80
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is 80
James Clyburn is 79
Former Vice President Joe Biden 78
Dianne Feinstein 86
Harry Reid 80
Patrick Leahy 80
Barbara Boxer 79
Bernie Sanders 78
Mitch McConnel 78


THIS IS DANGEROUS - cognitive decline happens to nearly everyone by the late 70's, certainly by age 80. Yet this crowd is ruling the US. Why? They have accumulated the "scary Godfather" "Don" "Crime syndicate leader" type of power. They know where all the secrets are hidden and aren't afraid to use them to control people around them. They have enough clout to destroy those who they simply don't like or who disagree with them, and they do this freely.

I was unable to get a good list of current world leaders by age. Suffice it to say there are at least 10 in their 90's, and more than 10 in their 80's. I suppose world leaders aren't anxious to let people know their advanced geriatric age. They try to hide it with massive plastic surgery like Pelosi and Putin that leave them looking like plastic dolls rather than real people.

I used to teach Human Development in Univ, retired now.

I can tell you that this is extremely dangerous to society. Especially men getting up to that age. Men die earlier than women and men reach the inevitable mental decline earlier than women. Pelosi is obviously in decline, as is Kay Ivey (R) Gov. You can see it in their "off script" press conferences where they get mixed up quite easily.

Pelosi's mental slips are quite public and numerous. Ivey had a press conference yesterday where she stood aside looking confused while younger men ran to the podium to answer questions. This is becoming all to common with far far too many of our elected politicians. We desperately need legislation forbidding anyone who will turn 80 during their elected term from running for office. But this won't happen because the over 80's we have voted in to run the country and fooled into thinking they were still cognitively healthy. Shame on us, would you want your 80+ year old Grandma or Grandfather to run the country? That is exactly who you voted to run the country if you voted for anyone whose term will take them into their 80's.

Why are we such a bunch of fools to keep electing people, of all parties, who are in mental decline? Why are we electing people who should be in assisted living to run the nation? Why aren't we trying to kick them out?

The world seems to have a death wish with these doddering old fools being elected to run the nation.

Trump was 70 when he was elected not 80 so he would not fit the description

Because they are human they will screw up.
Because society is a blame-game, blaming others instead of growing and solving your own imperfections.

And as they are old they will die soon. So the blaming of a dead guy has no consequences for the dead guy.

Imagine being in your twenties trying to help the world and half of the monkies is throwing their # at you for the next 60 years.

Trump is 74 that is why, he won't be 80 even if reelected.

If you note, I did not include anyone of any party in the list who won't turn 80 if re-elected or if they fill out their current term.

If I included anyone in their 70's or who would be in their 70's at the end of their term, that would probably be close to 1/4 of the entire federally elected/appointed officials, people who run the country.

Look at Ginsberg, they have to prop her up according to people in the know just to get her seated in the Supreme Court, they clear the court to help her in and out of her seat, she can't do it alone. Yet, she is a Supreme Court Justice.

In most people, not all of course, cognition can stay very good through the mid 70's, accumulated knowledge and experience compensate very well for slowing cognition, but by 80 almost everyone is in cognitive decline that can not be compensated for by knowledge and experience.

80 year olds....if their not a Saint like individual doing great works daily....then they get their supernatural long life battery not unlike that pink bunny keeps them old farts hoppin...

My dad was in his late 70s and told me straight out, “I just don’t have it any more kid”.
He was talking specifically about his mental capacities. Memory, processing, comprehension.

Still a very smart man but he felt diminished.

Lobbyists need a warm body the more mental issues and lower IQ the better. Its not as straight forward and easy as everyone thinks to build the trust required to be a partner in crimes, so once the lobbyiest own a politician they never want to release them. They invested millions on them

But lets focus back to racism,sexism,healthcare,immigration , ss, medicare,jobs, and the rest of the same crap both party have successfully suckered their followers to focus on for last century without fixing and avoid focusing the real culprit of the issues. Such as term limits, age restrictions, and removing conflict of interest from dc.

People still equate old age with wisdom...sadly this is proven daily not to be the case in many instances not just Governments

It's simple. It takes time to develop what it takes to get yourself into power:

1. Money
2. Connections
3. Notoriety
4. A body of work that makes you 'appear' successful
5. People that 'owe' you
6. A series of other 'jobs' that ostensibly lead to the power-level you seek

Can't do that by the time you're 30

I was going to say basically the same thing. Easier to control older people. Honestly the younger generation has been brainwashed far more than previous ones and are subjectively far more dangerous to society. At least they're getting a lesson in their vaunted socialist lifestyle and it's "features" like lines and rationing.
