The bill itself was refereed to as a stimulus bill as it was being pitched. And I said that very little of any of the recent spending is going to the virus



So, if you look, 1/6th is going to hospitals and state and local government for covid response (I'm sure those local and state governments will only use it for that).

Are you really that fing dumb? (yes, it is a serious question...) First of all, the money being given to individuals is because individuals have lost their jobs and can't pay their bills BECAUSE OF THE VIRUS...

Second of all, if you would stick your head out of your behind for one second to read the graph you just gave you would realize that corporations and small businesses are being given LOANS THEY HAVE TO PAY BACK TO THE GOVERNMENT...

How in the world isn't that money being used "because of the virus"?... People can't work because of social distancing to try to stop the spread of the virus, hence the money which is going to the people whom have been paying taxes all our lives...

But all businesses affected whom are being given LOANS have to pay it back. Obama's bailout of foreign CEOs and banks don't have to be paid back to the U.S...

I agree with you. When the POTUS implemented the travel ban from China and Iran it helped to limit the spread of this virus. Yet the always anti-Trump, even those in these forums, were clamoring with the left-wing media "how the travel ban from China and Iran proved that Trump is a racist..."

I’m curious, how did the travel ban limit the virus? Americans were still allowed to travel freely between the two countries.

It wasn’t until 2 weeks after the “ban” was in place that Americans returning were screened and told to self-isolate at home. They weren’t put into a specific quarantine to ensure they WOULD isolate, it was just an honor system approach.

I didn’t call it racists, I just thought it was half-assed and missed the mark.

No one is blaming this whole thing on Trump. That said, his mishandling of the situation and intentional (or maybe it was out of sheer ignorance) downplaying cost us three months when we could have mitigated the spread. That is inarguable and indefensible. THAT is entirely on Trump. He blew it. And there's no Sharpie big enough to spin it.

Those "loans" get converted to grants in a lot of cases.

And again, as I've said... The bill primarily focuses on the economy, and not the virus itself.

Most of the country is not shut down. So how many companies and uneffected people are going to get money right now, when they don't need it? What happens when they do need it when their area is effected?

How many phases are we going to have? Because they're working on phase 4, another multi trillion dollar bill right now.

More power to anyone who thinks this is all good.

We're a couple weeks in and we've already broken a record on a relief bill.... We're about to double down on another one. And hardly anyone is questioning it because they're blinded by fear.

Mark my words. Years from now, almost everyone regardless of party lines will say this was a colossal f*k up.

It doesn't matter where you stand on the severity of the virus. We're screwing the pooch any way you look at it.

That is completely incorrect. The money's to businesses are going to pay for salaries of people that are getting impacted by this virus. That money for small businesses is probably more important than any other in this bill. I question the amount going to large businesses, but right now most businesses are going to go through a massive revenue blip. Small businesses aren't built to absorb this large of a blip and the money is vital to ensure they don't go out of business and can continue to employ people when life gets back to some sort of normalcy.

Trump is responsible for the Travel Ban.
If so inclined...blame HIM for that.

State Governors are responsible for the state/city shutdowns.
If so inclined...blame THEM for that.

Unfortunately with how fast everything happened, we had to skip past a lot of nuance... One of my favorite things.

For the record... I actually liked that Trump left it up to states and localities for the most part to handle their territory. I am a big believer in state rights and against federal overreach.

My biggest quarrel is not so much federal response to the virus itself... But the crazy spending. I also don't think the spending aligns with the perceived threat.

As always... That's my opinion.

I hope I'm wrong... I hope we rebound quickly. But if Iraq and 08' bailouts taught me anything.... It's that I'd rather be the minority who gets people to question this as it happens and be wrong than be someone swept up into the moment on something we can't undo.

I think we'll feel this for a long time economically. Maybe things needed to be done, and in phases... But I don't think history will look kindly on such vast and blanketed spending before we could measure effectiveness and efficiency of said efforts.

The States acted because Trump was downplaying the pandemic when their own advisers and experts from all over the world were sounding the alarm as loudly as they could. You think the federal government could effectively and efficiently carry out mandates for the whole country?

They can't even handle a local or regional disaster response.

The states should be able to carry out their own directives. The only federal part of that should be assistance in a way that makes sense when asked for it.

I said back in early February I wouldn't trust my government an more than the Chinese on the Coronavirus. I have been shown that was and is the correct thinking.

If you expect the federal government to mitigate something on this scale, you're setting yourself up for disappointment every time.

Trump is just a puppet, and he will not save you. He was right on saying it was just the flu a few weeks ago. But many of us are seeing trump doing what every other president does. Trample on our freedoms or atleast, not doing anything to stop the anti constitutional acts done by both democrats and republicans. I also dont see people being tried for treason. I don't blame him though. You don't get to become president unless the Illuminati wants you there.

Trump was just the perfect wolf in sheeps clothing; i would even go as far as saying he is an actor playing a role.

The less amount of people from the country where the virus first appeared would mean less chance the virus would spread. Any intelligent person would know this...

Americans coming from China were being screened to see if they showed any symptoms. How easy left-wingers like yourself forget the fact that at the start of it all EVERYONE thought the virus wasn't that bad... The Trump administration was given the numbers that China, and Iran CLAIMED were the amount of infected and dead, yet they lied from the start.
