He is going to have the US military take on the Cartels.

They will soon be cut off by land, air, and sea.

Maybe they are expecting serious retaliation, and that's where the heightened sense of tension came from. I don't know much about South American armies, or who backs them, but I got a 'Bay of Pigs' feeling. ( Yes, I'm old enough to remember...
)

It's a distraction against their failed COvid response, early on.

The MO of this administration is to change the public narrative/chase the newest shiny thing. It's what they have always done.

And as things get worse, they attempt to shift the narrative.

Mmmm, that hypocrisy tastes so goooooooood!!!

You could be right. Maybe he's going to return El Chapo and all the other drug lords, along with millions of dollars to Venezuela. Who knows?

Well known fact CIA has used drugs as a way to fund things.. and control people.
Also a little less known is how the Mexican cartels 'donate' to Democrat campaigns.. Thus why the democrats want open boarders so badly..

So, Administration is cutting off the dirty money to the Democrats and CIA.. 'cuz no one is gonna argue, at least successfully with the .mil.

What is Hillary and Sorros gonna do without their Andrenochrome?

Yeah, I doubt that.

But there is this:

Mexican drug cartels struggle during coronavirus, hike prices as lab supplies from China dry up

Cartels are hurting, now that the borders are shut down and the Covid is shutting other things down.

That's going to make from some serious desperado's- and there's still enough of the border open to pose a serious threat.

We'll see.

The current crisis is not at the border, however, which goes back to my original point about how the presser was a bs distraction.

Trump is going to do what should have been done decades ago. He is going to have the US military take on the Cartels.

So we're sending our military into sovereign nations to fight cartels?

We were going to do it before Mexico's President got cold feet. Since they are now manning the border with 27,000 mexican military troops, I assume things have changed.

Distraction from what? How Covid is not as big a threat as the annual flu, or how it's the biggest threat since the Spanish flu?How much power does one man have that he's able to get all the military leaders to go along with his 'BS distraction"?

Mexican cartels are the only problem? Drugs don't come from SA?

Where is military action authorized?

While it would not directly give the United States authority for military operations in Mexico, many Mexicans were nervous their northern neighbor could use it as a pretext for a unilateral intervention.

US loves unilateral intervention, right?

Seems to be ore about asylum, which he hates, though:

If the U.S. government were to name terrorist groups in Mexico, then people fleeing the areas where they operate could claim credible fear of persecution, which is a requirement for asylum, Ebrard noted.

Esper said the mission would be supported by 22 partner nations.

So this part's weird. 22 partner nations are going to assist with OUR war on drugs? Hmmm.
Which 22 nations I wonder?

There is one sure fire way to end the drug cartel: Legalize all drugs!

1. It would end the cartels revenue stream which will quickly them

2. Taxing drug sales could bankroll all sorts of needed social services in the US, like universal healthcare.

What failures are those?
The only real failures were the attempts by the Dems to remove him from office.

The US and Venezuela are both part of the UN. Oh, dear....just found this on Wiki:

Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman stated that Iran "supports Venezuela's [Maduro] government and nation against any kind of foreign interference in its internal affairs". Russia: Russia has been a vocal supporter of Nicolas Maduro, as well as being a military and economic ally since under Hugo Chávez.

Yeah,

I'm not buying drug cartels. It's not a good season for drug cartels - no one out and no group parties. They'll wait for better markets. I don't think they would call out the military for extra drugs.

Did you notice he mentioned terrorists? A few weeks ago, I was going to post that I thought the US would be hit by terrorists.

Either Covid-19 is a terrorist attack or they expect one.

On March 26, U.S. Attorney General William Barr announced indictments of Venezuela’s authoritarian leader, Nicolás Maduro, and 14 senior current and former Venezuelan officials. The indictments, including a $15 million reward for Maduro’s capture, represent the latest tightening of the screws aimed at toppling the regime or forcing it to accept free elections.

The sanctions came amid a looming public health catastrophe as the coronavirus races around the globe. Venezuela is uniquely unprepared to treat or contain the virus, representing a threat to not only its own people but to public health in neighboring countries due to ongoing levels of migration. As such, rather than take steps to try to isolate the regime further, the international community should mobilize to provide massive humanitarian aid to neutral third parties in Venezuela. This could help avert contagion inside the country and dramatically reduce the risk to other countries to which desperate Venezuelans are fleeing.

As of March 29, Venezuela claimed it had 119 cases, out of a total of approximately 14,500 in Latin America and the Caribbean. Both numbers may seem modest. But in the absence of widespread testing, vast underreporting is to be assumed.
