Looks like a dream come true for big government that longs for millions of people becoming dependent on what a government can do for them !!

Yup the new jobless claims has hit 3.3 million since the States started locking down businesses and creating unemployment !!

Records are being set every day !!

Who's to blame for this and the COVID19 complex ??

What's the REAL goal ?? 😈 🎃

Jobless claims soar past 3 million to record high

The number shatters the Great Recession peak of 665,000 in March 2009 and the all-time mark of 695,000 in October 1982.
Claims had been expected to hit a record 1.5 million for the week, according to economists surveyed by Dow Jones.

Americans displaced by the coronavirus crisis filed unemployment claims in record numbers last week, with the Labor Department reporting Thursday a surge to 3.28 million.

The number shatters the Great Recession peak of 665,000 in March 2009 and the all-time mark of 695,000 in October 1982. The previous week, which reflected the period before the worst of the coronavirus hit, was 282,000, which was higher than expected at the time.

I'd say trying to prevent us from becoming Italy is the goal, wouldn't you?

It isn't just 5he states doing this... Its the whole world. It makes zero sense to send us into a depression on purpose.

Thought it would be higher than that. Illinois governor caused over 1 million to lose jobs due to his (intentional) over-reaction. PRICKster is now indicating he'll keep unemployment high beyond the original April 7th deadline.

www.washingtonexaminer.com...

I bet most Anti-Trump states will stay closed-for-business beyond Easter. Can't give the President any reason to begin re-opening America for business on Easter Sunday. The more damage to Americans, the better the odds for...(gulp)...BIDEN.

Italy is 116k square miles; compared to 3.7 million square miles of the US with a 6th of our population......... far larger percentage of older citizens; not to mention they drink almost all day, eat large meals very late and a lot of them smoke. This is why the numbers are that way.

Are you saying we shouldn't be doing what we're doing?

I fail to see the significance of this OP, outside of fear-mongering. Do this same OP after the workers can go back to work. Compare numbers to see how many people became unemployed by the shutdown and stayed unemployed afterwards. Those would be the casualties of the shutdown in worker volume.

You end the OP with questions that your numbers are completely irrelevant to. I usually look forward to your posts too, even though I disagree with you a lot. This is a poorly constructed OP, and is quickly becoming the norm on ATS. No me gusta

So many of OPs are just whinge threads these days. Get a grip.

Addendum:
Honestly 3 million is a smaller number than I'd expect for multiple states on shutdown. But they aren't shut down; in 'low power' mode. Ends up a lot of jobs are "essential".

Isn't it strange that the State Government can force people on unemployment, and then demand money from the federal coffers (everyone's money), sending the whole country into crisis? That's what is happening here.

THAT'S a relevant question! Or, a poorly-worded question that points to an oft-neglected part of the discussion. Links to the OP as well. Look at that! A coherent thread comes into form...

Italy's per capita alcohol consumption is about half that of the United States and fairly low compared to other countries.

...eat large meals very late...

Also not accurate, overall obesity levels in Italy are 90th in the world.

*shrugs* it sucks, I wish it didnt happen but as soon as half the world started locking things down it was inevitable here that we would be locked down to some degree which meant job losses, maybe we should have closed the borders and done a nationwide lockdown right away for 4 weeks and we might be done with it by now.

But the barn door is open the horse is out, at this point we can only try to mitigate the damage.

It is really fun to watch you continually change the goal posts and politicize this over and over again. Scared your shill job is going to go away when Trump isn't re elected?

You have continually spread garbage without any facts on here and quite franky and shocked you are still allowed to post over and over again. Over and over and over ... This is a nothing burger.. This is a democratic hoax.. The hospitalization rate is really low.. The death rate is low.. Now changing the goal posts again...

I'm still waiting for the tick tock hat eating exercise you agreed to long ago about all of the 'sealed' indictments. But of course that isn't going to happen now right? You will just change the goal posts again.

Cognitive dissonance at its best.

ALL states absolutely should. We do NOT have a handle on this situation, at all.
