Hello ATS members. Being Italian American I always had this close attachment to Italy, but now my dreams of one visiting and seeing where my parents family history is, well, I guess them days are gone now. Here is what really happened to Italy. My friend lives in Bergamo, Italy. This is his story.

1. Bergamo is the biggest industrial textile sector
2. Bergamo has a very large business connection with China
3. In the beginning, there was no lock down so the corona virus spread like a wild fire
4. Then they had the soccer match "Atalanta vs. Milan
5. Over 40000 people then in Mian begin exchanging hugs and beer mugs
6. Orio al Serio airport, the very busy airport with lax restrictions and is the 3rd largest airport in Italy ( en.wikipedia.org... )
7. Pianura Padana is the most polluted zone in the whole of Europe ( en.wikipedia.org... )
8. Bergamo has one of the largest elderly population also

Those are some things to consider when looking at the disaster for Italy.

Divide and Conquer will be the outcome from this, and Italy has sadly taken the worst so far apparently.

The highly polluted area you link to seems to be very humid. Perhaps a good environment for this virus to thrive, although moisture could remove it from the air, wouldn't that keep it in the area by settling it on the terrain more instead of it passing over, especially as there is apparently little wind due to the sheltered land?

Good luck to you and your family wherever you are.

Be strong, patient and informed.

peace.

I read somewhere about a government-sponsored 'Hug A Chinese' campaign.
What was that?

when are you going to put up his story?

All I see is a summery of facts of the region.

I'll be talking to him tomorrow and I'll ask him that. I'll also be sending him and his family some masks. Soon our stores will have masks available, but the wife and I bought some a head of all this masks panic. These are the masks that we bought.
Cost about 1200 yen or about 12 bucks. Got them at the hospital. Its the ones patients and staff wear. Comes in 50 to a box.

Actually he has a website. A guitar website. I'll ask him about it and see if he can write up something or send me an mp3 with his story and if he wants to do that, I'll post it on Box.com.
It was like 1 am in the morning when I talked to him today so he was rushing through his breakdown.

In Hokkaido, the Chinese lady brought the virus to Hokkaido. Sad, but we know nothing more about her. Maybe you can dig up something and post about it.

You dont think it has anything to do with 150k+ Chinese immigrants in the area?

More than a hundred thousand immigrants. A population of immigrants that travel home, to celebrate the New Year?

I still haven't seen stats that include the nationality of the people in Italy that have tested positive, nor those that have died.

I think it's too early to assume they're all Italian nationals.

The biggest cultural difference, between Northern and Southern Italy, is the nationality of immigrants

The south also has it's share of immigrants, but they're mainly from Africa.

Maybe we should wait for more data, before making assumptions.

Edited to add source: personal experience, having lived there.

I read in the news they said patient zero in Italy was from Pakistan. Virus' pick up either RNA or DNA from the people they infect. I can't remember which one. Either way what ever it is virus's can be traced back to their origin.

I followed a case a couple years ago where a woman got HIV. Her husband was a doctor and infected her on purpose using blood he had taken from a patient. Through testing they were able to find out exactly which patent the virus had come from.

So perhaps the Bergamo region was the Wuhan for the whole of Italy? Just guessing.

Interesting read. 70% of the deaths are male and 96.2% of the deaths are over age 60.

Seems like China was/is taking over parts of Italy.
