13 million children will be affected. What will there parents who work do????
35k schools
This was done because of the high number of cases they are starting to see.

The measure, which will cost the Japanese economy billions of dollars, will impact 12.8 million students at nearly 35,000 schools nationwide, according to the country’s education ministry.

The drastic measure comes amid rapidly growing concern about the spread of the virus across Japan and other parts of Asia, as the number of untraceable cases of the virus continues to rise. Japan now has around 900 cases, including more than 700 from a quarantined cruise ship. At least eight deaths have been confirmed.

“Efforts have been made to prevent the spread of infection among children in each region, and these one or two weeks will be an extremely critical period,” Abe told a meeting of key Cabinet ministers on Thursday. “The government attaches the top priority to the health and safety of children, among others.”

There are currently 1/7th of the world population in quarantine over this virus. The time is now to prepare. Not panic.

It actually makes sense really.

Schools, especially elementary schools are like mini bio warfare incubators and thats just on an average day.

You couple that with a general lack of hand-washing etc, and you will quickly get everybody sick then the families at home where it will spread especially if they have more kid going to different school

Best to keep those little vectors home

That and you have parents who don’t care, or can’t afford to stay home, that still take their sick poor kids to school. It pisses me off because I know my kids will get it and bring it home.

It makes lots of sense but it will be a huge disruption. Any of who have kids know it is a hotspot for illness but I am thinking of the parents who do care about their kids and will have to miss work.

If this happens in the US, and I forsee it within the next two weeks, it will get real very fast when supply chains break down or people are ordered to not go to stores/etc.

Anyone starting to prepare here stateside yet? I pulled the trigger and started stocking up on some dried food. 30 gal of distilled water stored. But it seems to be getting harder and harder to find 4lb or bigger containers of dried beans through amazon. It will be interesting to see how their supply holds up.

I don't see the big deal with this virus. The flu kills the elderly in poor health all the time. Unless someone can point out where it's killing lots of healthy people, I'm gonna do the same as I did with H1N1.

Three days...

That is all cities like NYC and LA can last without resupply. And that is normal operating conditions. Not panic buying ahead of a full shelter in place quarantine being declared. Smaller cities like Chicago, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta are a week to ten days. Population centers of 10,000-25,000 are two to three weeks. Little towns of less than 1000 are also two to three weeks because they have less shopping options.

A full shutdown quarantine nationwide...you have more than the virus to worry about surviving.

I don’t know but I have a couple friends that are really starting to unravel over this.

Tell them to read about it from various sources. My biggest worry is commerce shutting down because of the overreaction. Why worry about a virus that you will most likely get down the road, even if it isn't this year?

A lot of parents will be home anyways. Lots of business are instating work from home measures.

This is due to the fact that you are sane and rational human being and not a doom porn addict. Some of the threads on here regarding this virus are ridiculous, like people thinking it's triggered by 5g and crazy stuff like that.

The people who think it's triggered by 5G are people who are triggered by 5G.

And kids get the least sick from this, so they are perfect vectors.

Good point.

They should just kill all the sick and elderly this way no one would get the virus.

LOL, I am pretty sure those were the same people that warned us that 4G was going to kill us all. As if these companies don't test the health effects of new technology before they roll it out.

More like how many are so used to their kids having constant minor sniffles that it ain't no big thing and they keep going and anyhow? Only now those could be COVID sniffles.

You know, we keep a rotating 6 mos. ration, water and meds supply. We start ramping up water when a concern hits the nation, then ramp further as it becomes more local.

"Be prepared" a motto I always took seriously

Where did you get that number of 1/7 of the worlds population under quarantine from?
Maybe 1/7 under some type of travel restriction based on the desired destination.
