What's the deal with the high speed trains?

Isnt musk taking that venture on?

No, referring to the former, recently cancelled taxpayer funded train
$20 Billion + down the drain.
And no water

Libtard "priorities"
...And, if you do live in Ontario, and pay Ontario's now excessive electricity rates, don't forget to thank former liberal Premier Wynn for THAT disaster, wasting other people's /taxpayer money to be "green" and look good with the Greta/dingbat crowd...

Starting buying land, "planning", starting to build 120 miles of rail...nothing was ever remotely completed ...project total cost ballooned from $33 Billion up to $100 BILLION or close to $1BILLION PER MILE !!

Plus, there already exists a better, faster, high-speed transportation system
It's called an "airplane"-You should check it out !

And meanwhile, the (artificial, democrat-manufactured) water "crisis" goes on

Waste ..what liberals do best

There's lots of desalination plants in cali... but they aren't very efficient. But hey, keep blaming the liberals!

actually you may want to do a tad bit of research before claiming liberals in CA are the good guys.

because when I did the results showed your comment is laughable to the point of denial.

one fact is the environmentalist have been fighting them because they do use alot of energy and do produce waste (brine) that can if not released right can be bad.

in fact recently in a wired article just in last few years CA enacted legislation that the desol industry called "odious" (in simple terms industry harming) that makes it HARDER to make new facilities.

along with the regulations in CA normally are draconian to say the least.

Along with if they had put in the dam system proposed in the 60s with some REAL REGULATIONS on water use (btw some of the biggest offenders of wasted water for pools, yards , ect are hollywood liberals and liberal leaders) the plants would not be needed as bad as they are now.

but hey dont let FACTS get in way of defending liberals and CA environmental extremists right?

um how about a little REALITY here please not emotional rant?

I live in IL

how exactly is CA water shortage and fixing it "benefiting " residence of IL?

Seems what you REALLY are saying is you want the rest of the country to PAY FOR california mistakes, waste , assinine environmental regulations, and outright irresponsibility

Uh guys, there's actually this thing called OTEC that can provide more highly efficient desalination in an environmentally beneficial package that should be capable of complying with whatever crazy desalination laws California has enacted.

I make my living as many who see me post as an Environmental Scientist and I am happy to see this.

One thing the Tree Huggin' variety of Environmentalists do is overreach and ruin the situation for all involved. They are looking for reasons to throttle humanity instead of ways to blend with the environment.

I loved the line Yoda used. "Balance Padawan". We have to find the balance. Humans are the priority and protecting the Environment is a win win. But overreach ruins the Public's perception and swings opinion to the other direction. Never deliberately drive off any species but remember the species that disappeared before man came on the scene. Remember we will likely be killed by things like viruses in big cities and wild beasts in the forests and tundra even now.

Remember too that the overreach also gives gov more absolute powers not intended by our form of Gov and COTUS. Balance is obviously more important than hurting our food chain on purpose as stopping water to the farmers appears to many people, including me. Humans 1st is what they are missing and that is not going to work to well in the long run to protect humanity over a rare species of fish that didn't create a big enough niche to be world wide.

President Trump on Wednesday signed a memorandum directing more of California’s scarce water supply to farmers and other agriculture interests in the state's Central Valley, a Republican stronghold.

"For too long water authorities have flushed millions of gallons into the Pacific,” Trump said

Trump has long criticized the environmental rules governing the flow of water in California – calling the rules “insane” during a campaign stop in 2016 and pledging that he’d be “opening up the water” for farmers.

i live in socal. i think this is a good move in the right direction. i remember when "they" shut the water off. many farmers were pissed and rightfully so.

what's your opinion ATS?

Here is an idea that's time has come too. Desalinization plants work to create water. Sun can be the source the salt will probably be overwhelming but with the ice melt they claim is coming it will be easy to put the salt back in the ocean without harm.

How to do this now?
I would suggest not listening to the A holes who won't do desalinization and start pushing it. The money Cali brings in from the Hollywood elite should be confiscated since they hate rich people anyway and are ready to vote for a real Commie in the General if Bernie is the nominee. I am sure the Cali socialist legislature would love to get their hands on more tax revenues to help them pay for it and skim for family and friends. People could pony up for that when they use the water and then they need to demand the gov start spending wisely like some states that have been required to balance the budget. The side affect of this balanced budget law builds in a layer to prevent the Gov corruption due to the oversight of the spending.

The plight of the California farmers is insane. California has caused its own drought problem on the backs of its farmers. This is long overdue.

i live in socal. very true. we dont acknowledge that "sunny southern California" is largely a huge dessert. so much water wasted everywhere. 90% of all news homes built where i live come with nice green lushes lawns. our housing market is booming off the charts... lots of water wasted there. i kid you not, with in a 7 mile radius i live next to 5 huge golf courses.

Just wondering after reading a story on Drudge that Pro Surfer Kelly Slater is going to build the world's largest wave in the California desert how much of the diverted water is actually going to go to this stupid idea. This is a huge reason why California is needing water. immense waste.

It was reported that the basin for this wave will hold 18 million gallons of water, wonder how much of the parched farm land could use that water rather than letting it sit in a basin for a wave-maker. I just don't get it, if I was Trump and read that story I would be pumping the brakes and thinking a little more on the decision.

Ah yes, California. Supposedly the worlds nth largest economy and would easily be their own country if they broke from the USA.

Except they can't even supply their own state with water. Friggin water.

And they act like Rural Folks in Cali are the Beverly Hillbillies. What a joke that state will be for centuries to follow. Should they even survive the big one. Karma suggests they won't but we shall see.

Most states have water issues. Given the hard on most have for my fair state, don't pony up the water and kiss of 13 percent of the nations grown food. That's about 47 billion worth

www.ocregister.com...

Expensive and grainy. California produces a sizable majority of many American fruits, vegetables, and nuts: 99 percent of artichokes, 99 percent of walnuts, 97 percent of kiwis, 97 percent of plums, 95 percent of celery, 95 percent of garlic, 89 percent of cauliflower, 71 percent of spinach, and 69 percent of carrots (and the list goes on and on). Some of this is due to climate and soil. No other state, or even a combination of states, can match California’s output per acre. Lemon yields in California, for example, are more than 50 percent higher than in Arizona. California spinach yield per acre is 60 percent higher than the national average. Without California, supply of all these products in the United States and abroad would dip, and in the first few years, a few might be nearly impossible to find. Orchard-based products in particular, such as nuts and some fruits, would take many years to spring back. slate.com...

Shhhhh....libtards will only implement it if they feel a given technical idea was invented by them, from the top of their basket-weaving-eco-tard latte gender degrees.

California libtards have already rejected dams, very mature, known good, cheap, reliable, efficient technology, because dams are products of STEM guys and libtards feel they have ZERO value-added with their useless degrees.

Again, the water shortage is Cali is not a capability issue.

It is a NARCISSISM "I reject this dam/desalination technology because I must have value added - look at ME" issue, with the added desire to create a water shortage ON PURPOSE in order to use that shortage to control rural Californians that do not vote Left.

Conservatards seem to ignore the fact that there are few areas left to dam in the state. Even though most conservatards think that uber liberal SF is a bunch of street crapping pot smoking hippies they have voted consistently to keep the Hetch Hetchy dam in place

FYI alot of the water is Federally allocated so not a California issue per say. But lets not let fact get in the way of ranting

Hmmm.

I very strongly agree with "But lets not let fact get in the way of (your) ranting"

..and the FACTS are that there are MANY dam projects that are possible that were proposed DECADES ago and are STILL UNBUILT !!

The FACTS are these:

1. The original 1957 California Water Plan included provisions for dams on the Klamath, Eel, Mad and Smith Rivers of California's North Coast

2. This plan was handled by California, not the Feds

3. Only phase 1 and 2 were ever built

4. UNBUILT later phases like the Klamath diversion would have provided up to 10 MILLION acre feet of water ( that's 12 CUBIC KILOMETERS OF WATER), plus electricity, environmentally friendly electricity.

5. Later projects went unbuilt because of WRONG HEADED environmental concerns ( libtard hobby horse)
LEAVE DAM PLANNING TO ENGINEERS, NOT HIPPY LIBTARDS

6. Even if one wants to use the excuse that California had a water surplus for many years ( which is true), and that therefore the later phases were not required, California has had a clear continuous shortage/drought for at least 10 years

7. California Governors have been Democrats for the last 10 years

8. The California legislature has been controlled by Democrats for even longer

9. NONE of them, to this day, proposed undertaking these decades old water projects, never mind initiating brand new ones. They HAD the MONEY: instead, these LIBTARDS wasted $20 BILLION on their now canceled high-speed "ecological" electric train to nowhere !!!
->> Meanwhile today, in 2020, Californians have water shortages !! Still !
NO PLAN IN SIGHT
NONE !

Q.E.D.

Sorry, Fred, this one time, you are wrong.

I don't tell a surgeon how to operate
I don't tell a pilot how to fly an airliner
I don't tell an astronaut how to land on the moon.

Given the above, how about eco-freak libtards and politicians let ENGINEERS do THEIR JOB instead of shoving sticks in their wheels ?

If some of these hippies have low iQ chip on shoulder issues ( clearly the case ), apply to Universities and become Engineers !
Something tells me eco-freak star libtard idiots like "there's a monster in my kitchen sink" AOC would not last even half the first semester of first-year Engineering, but OK.....
....because math is "racist" , I know.....That's the reason....SMH.....

Sorry for the (even longer) rant.
You hit a pretty raw nerve....

Respectfully
M5XAZ

As a Libertarian I find your ignorance a wonderful example to share with my friends as examples of the lack of logic and the obvious hate for America and our principles. There is another Fred on here that probably cringes that we might get you mixed up with the other.

Carry on please, I need the material for my peers at work. It really helps prove the level of desperation and lunacy when, no matter the subject, TDS rEEEEEEEEEEEEEE appears from left.

Thank all of your reeee friends for me! I have a lot of good examples that really work to make the point.

You could be right, but I can't help but point out that OTEC does offer that added value in it's numerous environmentally beneficial by-products. Also, we can give them all biologist jobs farming fish out there, the math is easier and they can just crap over in the biofuel algae pond if they're into that sort of thing...

Of course, something like that would still involve ACTUAL science, so perhaps it is too much to hope for.

Also, I agree with your general assessment that there is too much contention and political wrangling for California to fix its problems. It's pretty sad. That wonderful collection of natural resource, being so horribly mismanaged, and all in the name of 'preserving the environment.' What a joke. Whatever the focus is there, it's not on helping the ecology. Seems like a different kind of greening is the big focus there, like those little green pieces of paper that everybody seems to like so much. But I digress.

Lots of water projects that could be done in California with minimal environmental impact. Man made lakes solved Oklahoma's water problems, and they have very few rivers comparatively. It would work in California too, as far as I can tell. Lots of other ways to skin that not enough water cat, if anyone could be bothered enough to make it happen. Alas...
