The Sonics! Definitely proto-punks on par with The Stooges who should have been bigger. They are still rockin', my good friend of 20+ years Dusty
Watson (Jon and the Nightriders, Dick Dale, The Queers, Slacktone) is their current drummer.
He's played with tons, those were off the top of my head. He started out in the early punk days with the Stepmothers, went on to play in Suburban
Lawns, Concrete Blonde, and with Lita Ford before ending up in rehab. He also played with
this English gent on his last U.S. tour before covid.
Back in prehistoric times (before CD's), standard practice was to buy your vinyl then immediately dub them to cassette to play in your car. I must
have worn out at least 3 or 4 cassettes of this record>
Back when LP's were the primary medium for new music, a band that gained fame and success with their debut release often fell victim to the "sophomore
curse". The follow up record was critical. If you strayed too far from your sound, fans could drop you. Conversely if you merely repeated the original
formula they may move on to something new. The third possibility was that you just didn't have any more decent material. Many great bands have broken
the curse in their own ways.
The Undertones decided to face this dilemma head-on with the lead off song on their 2nd release titled "More Songs About Chocolate and Girls".
So here's more songs about chocolate and girls
It's not so easy knowing they'll be heard
A lot less time for a lot more care
So here's more songs about chocolate and girls
