As part of the plan, Israel has agreed to halt settlement construction for four years.

So the Palestinians have to agree with the plan for that provision to come into effect. That's my reading of it.

It also looks like the article is continuing to be updated because this part definitely wasn't in the before:

But in one detail sure to provoke Palestinian objections, the plan recognizes Israeli sovereignty over major settlement blocs in the West Bank.

I can not see how this deal could go wrong...

Peace

Palestinians have no interest in a deal of any type so it can't go wrong, it can't go anywhere.

so calling it a "peace plan" might be a little incorrect?

Palestine was a British mandate, not a state.

Palestinians did not exist as an ethnicity, prior to the creation of Israel

What we have come to know as the Palestinian people are really a diverse group of people with different ethnicities who migrated to the area.

Once Israel was granted land and statehood, the land was disputed by these various migrant groups who call themselves Palestinian.

This is what I understand about this subject, if I am wrong please correct me.

Palestine isn't going to get everything they want, and they don't have to agree to anything to negotiate on the plan. They don't want to use this as a starting point, they have no interest in any negotiation.

Not incorrect, I would call it a pointless plan though as Palestinians have shown for over 100 years peace is not on their agenda.

But what are the implications for the US if this is a known fact? enforce it?

Here's to an other decade of boots on the ground.

I thought US wanted to get out of that corner of the world?

Funny how everybody is on point in this thread and addressing the issue yet the only people calling "DERP, PEACE BAD. ORANGE MAN BAD DERP" are trump supporters...

Oh yes, your contribution of

"so it should not be called a peace plan"

is brilliant insight.

well given that:

Noun 1. peace process - any social process undertaken by governments who want their citizens to believe they are trying to avoid armed hostilitiess

and nobody bothered to involve the palestinians in the creation of this "peaceplan" I'd say it's a pretty relevant question...

yeah that was a bit premature but I was thinking about this quote:

“President Abbas, I want you to know that if you choose the path to peace, America and many other countries, we will be there, we will be there to help you in so many different ways and we will be there every step of the way, we will be there to help,”

And if not?

Because Palestinians are not interested in peace. No one is telling them this is the final plan and they have to live by it, it's a starting point to base negotiations on, Palestine won't negotiate.

Well,I think I may have jumped the gun when I said this looked like a good plan-Having seen more about it on the news it doesnt seem that great for the Palestinians.
In fact it seems weighted against them and now if they don't like it they will get all the blame for making the deal fail.
Maybe that was the plan all along?
Oh well,I should have known better than to have hope for a fair deal.

Remember, Trump probably did not create this thing, but he is presenting it to them. I am sure it involves input from many professionals that have tried to put something together for years and have seen the failures in past attempts.

If memory serves, this is the product of Jared Kushner and Ivanka...

These sound like great ideas but shouldn't Trump sort out his own country?

Patience grasshopper, he has 5 more years, and these will be a lot more fun, since starting in 2021, he won't be dogged by demwits in Congress...
