That means 1000s are all around us. Perhaps millions are incubating it as we speak.

It's a month too late to quarantine.

Even in a worst-case scenario...if every country in the world stayed to itself and let no one out, or in (imagine that nonsense?)... It wouldn't matter. If a deadly virus hits a place and quickly spreads, people will flee. And people will do absolutely anything to get themselves and their families out.

It would take an act of God to keep people confined to just their country to die.

Not really since it appears that alcohol has killed more people than the corona virus

but still borders during pandemics , epidemics should be closed, regardless of how much it affects a countries GDP

we could kill the entire species with one person being selfish .

As of January 27 there are 5 confirmed cases in the US. The rest are as I described - people that have been in contact with the 5 known cases that are being monitored for signs of infection or whom have travelled to China recently. There are 32 people that have been tested and ruled out, and 73 with test results pending for a total of 110 in 26 states.

your not wrong, but doing nothing helps no one. Another alternative I've heard is having a mandatory quarantine period for all international flights. Where all passengers and crew are subjected to a full battery of tests to ensure they are safe to be released into the general populace. If it was made mandatory for all, it would certainly help contain outbreaks like these.

I don't think viruses care about borders. They can enter our country inside an American returning home more easily than being brought in by an illegal crossing over from mexico and if there is an epidemic here it will most assuredly be started by an American host.

Illegal immigration has little to do with the virus outbreak. Or next to nothing really. A temporary travel ban on a country due to an outbreak also has nothing to do whatsoever with laws that might be in place regarding normal or illegal immigration.

I am not terribly worried about a horribly sick person somehow making an on-foot journey of hundreds of miles to then infect a town in Texas or New Mexico, no. Ridiculously low even on my list of worries regarding illegal immigration.

OP point is simply throwing stuff at the wall hoping it sticks. Unless he is advocating for literally -no- visitation, immigration, legal or otherwise, from people of other countries. At which I can only sadly shake my head, if that is the case.

No one said anything about one illegal mexican. The concept is really very simple: either you can track the people entering your country in case of something like this viral outbreak, or you cant. There are only 5 cases right now in the US but there have been a total of 110 suspect. Why do you think that is? Its because we know who the travellers are and who they came in contact with. 5 confirmed cases, 32 who were tested and ruled out, and 73 with test results pending. Now, you tell me: how do propose we track and test unknown carriers who entered illegally? Are you suggesting that no illegal immigrants are Chinese? If so - prove it.

Honestly, its pretty moronic to suggest that an open border with so many unknown quantities is not potentially harmful. No one said these US cases are due to some illegal mexican as you put it. Its just a common sense dialogue on the subject of the thread - how open borders can be harmful.

You DO realise that illegal immigrants have already caused multiple cases of tuberculosis, measles, mumps, whooping cough, scabies, and have reintroduced polio to this nation. Many of these people have received few, if any, vaccinations. How can you possibly think letting them roam free with no way of tracking them is not a bad idea amidst a potential epidemic?

I'm not for open borders and agree when it comes to screening potential immigrants for any country. It's their right decide who lives there I feel.
But as for diseases I'll laugh when a legit visitor to your country or returning citizens brings along Ebola or similar.

Because diseases don't give a # if you have a stamped passport or not.
