Nearly 40 million people on lockdown in 14 Chinese cities.
All 70 thousand movie theaters closed.
Because 26 deaths and 881 infected.
I don't buy that. They are going to take a massive economic hit from this.
Something way more serious is taking place IMHO.

26 dead and 881 infected is absolutely not sensational.
35+ million people on lockdown is.
All Chinese theatres shut down, and now other big venues such as Disneyland, Casinos etc is pretty huge.
Hence why something else is up. In this case, it's the Chinese govt feeding the news non sensational numbers.

Not faulting you here or anyone else, just looking objectively at the facts...
First link still says at the bottom after all the sensationalistic journalism of the article (nothing new yet at all but they have to make money)...
"As of Friday, more than 800 people had been infected by the virus globally, and 25 had died by it in China. Eight Chinese cities near the center of the outbreak β home to tens of millions β have been put on lockdown."
800 people infected out of approximately 7.7 billion with still just 25 dead, only one place in the world where any have died, China (population 1.4 billion approx) to put it into perspective...
Second source says the following in order;
BREAKING: Scientists move symbolic Doomsday Clock to 100 seconds before midnight, the closest ever, citing threat of nuclear war and climate change
Nothing sensational about that at all. Just a normal report of sensationalist news.

35 million of anything is pretty sensational. We're going to see more, bet on it. China is also a massive chunk of land.
Imagine if they shut down say... California? Not sensational?
The thing is, this is all experemental because 35 million people have never been quarantined before, and certainly not for 25 deaths

You're right, there was SARS and all the rest. Never this type of quarantine process. Let's hope it's a super cautious reaction from the Chinese govt since SARS was handled so badly.
I have my doubts, however. The Chinese govt doesn't seem the type to take such an economic hit unless forced into it. Much downplaying ensues to safe face in the process. I do hope I'm wrong though.

Just for a little more perspective for the Doom! addicts.

I have a question, sorry its not an update.
But how do they differentiate people with common cold/flu symptoms, to people with the Coronavirus?

I mean imagine the millions of people over there panicking and going to the hospitals when they just have a normal cold/flu π
There's probably a really simple answer, but I cannot think of it yet as it's early
On topic, the updates are a genuine concern to me, because I also think we are not being given the full story π

Probably taking some samples of their fluids and send them on some testing? I wonder if those tests take long ass time like bloodtests for some rare diseases
