That's not even remotely realistic, this does not have a 40% fatality rate.

The below ss is what I found on my fb today, coming from an intelligent grown man! (or so I thought) He's been deleting the comments that speak against him and continues on his wall about how this is the stuff that cause the virus outbreak. That is the kind of 'misinformation' that should be taken offline asap because, no matter how ridiculous posts like this are, ppl are actually believing it!

Definitely can confirm from first hand experience Chinese people do NOT eat human remains.

That thing about cremated abortion remains pills years back was mistranslation and people running wild with the information.

I’ve seen first hand rich Chinese people do and eat lots of crazy things but nothing that crazy.

There is a video of a baby that has the virus and is quarantined, with the doctor crying at the other side of the glass, should be able to find it through twitter or liveleak.

Also, there were news headlines about a couple and their kid, the kid could have the virus so they would have to be quarantined... the parents let the kid alone and took the plane by themselves.

Hey, literally no changes, they are still doing blood tests of them all and only 1 tourist is the group appears as infected; the last tests these last days have been done by the capital of Spain directly in case there was some negligence at the hospital, but same thing, seems like he hasn't infected any of his 4 friends.

The hospital is doing daily public interviews and updates. The symptoms have been treated and they have ceased and they all remain "calm" and "perfectly fine." Still quarantined until at least 14 days have passed.

No changes on any front either, they will be taking samples and checking the 15-20 people that were close to the group twice every day, that includes people that sat next to the Germans in the ferry, flight, and flight assistants. The 6th person, who is a local who is friends with one of the group, is still in domicile arrest with a nearby doctor and nothing wrong for the time being.

So... dunno what's going on at this point. China has a different strand? Did they grab him before he started infecting other people and the quarantine is working wonders... even with the other quarantined 4 guys he is still sharing the hospital aisle and the terrace with?

The news headline corresponding to today's public notice I mentioned earlier, nothing out of the ordinary at all for the time being, which ironically makes everything much more weirder.

I am not sure about it, maybe it is just a matter of the Chinese population being older in general, in the same way that it may appear that it affects men more when it could be attributed to demographics. Also, it is much more likely to see adults travel on their own and get infected than kids, so hard to see at this stage in western countries, I'm on the fence.

Hey I 100% agree with you when you say this is way worse than anyone can imagine. And please, I don't spread doom and gloom and I don't panic. I just know what I know. My question is this: what the hell is anyone going to do about it? Every time ya leave the house there's a chance you'll catch something so what's the point?

Also, maybe weather plays a part, the local weather in La Gomera (all the islands are pretty much the same) is 23º C (73ºF), with a humidity of 65%, humidity never goes lower than 40% here unless there is a sandstorm.

Could be interesting if the virus does stick to water particles and humidity does help prevent infection after all, as stated in the earlier pages in the thread.

Otherwise, I am sincerely lost as to what is happening in China...

That is why people should be prepared to shelter in place. I am ready. My family can be in place for almost 6 months. I have been scolded and ridiculed by other family members though.

I am not panicked yet, but for sure prepared. If this turns out to be a nothing burger, I will just start rotating out the food and stuff. It will all be used in the end.

It is like filling up your gas tank. Would you rather have a full tank, or riding on E not knowing if you will make it to the next station. I know a lot of people that do that too. Does not make sense to me.

Today we have 362 dead and 530 recovered, sum 892 persons. So 40% of them are dead and 60% have recovered.

And 17K that are alive and could go either way. So no, it is not 40%, but I think it is still too early to get an accurate number.

That doesn’t take into account that this is an ongoing situation. The 362 deaths didn’t happen as soon as they became symptomatic. There is a latency; it could be 5 days, it could be 9 days from the time they are symptomatic until death. You have to divide those 362 deaths by the number of cases from 5-9 days ago or...much different number isn’t it?
