China has reported an outbreak of the deadly H5N1 bird flu in Hunan province, which lies on the southern border of Hubei province, the epicentre of the rapidly spreading coronavirus.
“The outbreak occurred in a farm in the Shuangqing district of Shaoyang city. The farm has 7,850 chickens, and 4,500 of the chickens have died from the contagion. Local authorities have culled 17,828 poultry after the outbreak,” according to a statement by China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on Saturday.
No human cases of the Hunan H5N1 virus have been reported.
The Hunan H5N1 outbreak comes even as the Chinese authorities continue to scramble to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, further stretching the nation’s already heavily strained resources needed to combat the health threats.
SAITAMA, Japan (Kyodo) -- A government official involved in work to look after isolated returnees from Wuhan at a lodging facility near Tokyo was found dead on Saturday and police are investigating his death as a possible suicide
The police suspect he might have jumped off the building. No suicide note has been found.
The institute is one of the locations where those who have recently returned from Wuhan, the epicenter of a new coronavirus outbreak, are staying for about two weeks to prevent the potential spread of the pneumonia-causing virus.

Seeing there is a new birdflu in Hunan Province nr Wuhan now.
No human cases yet but with corona already rampant there and by many accounts leaving people liable to other infection/diseases with their compromised immune systems we can only hope it doesn't make the jump to humans. Don't think it would help much if they mixed together as birdflu's tend to be more deadly without the relatively high R0 associated with corona

Actually the video at the bottom of the link (CCTV source) is an interesting watch as it more or less admits the numbers are vastly under reported due to lack of testing kits and the hospitals being overwhelmed.
